Estradiol(Estrace)

Hi sisters,
I am status post TVAH/BSO in October of 2002. I have been on estrace since then, 2 mg a day. It has worked well, with no hot flashes, but I have been dealing with a severe bout of depression that came on this past November. A lot of the depression I feel is situational and a mid life thing. I am 43. I just wonder if anyone else out there has been on estradiol (estrace) alone for over a year and had any mood changes. My psychiatrist doesn't think that the estrogen level would be a problem since I take the same amount every day. And like I said, I haven't had any flashes. I probably need to go ahead and make an appt with my gyn and see if an estradiol level needs to be checked.
Let me know if any of you sisters can add to this solution for me. I really appreciate it.

Hello, Sunflower!

I haven't had any experience with depression but any change that isn't normal for you is certainly reason enough to see your doctor. Have you ever had your hormone levels checked since your surgery? It's probably not a bad idea to have that done, just as you have suggested. It could help point to something that is out of balance. It's also important to take into account how you feel on your HRT.

Even though the amount of estrogen you take remains the same from day to day it can be affected by other factors such as stress.

Let us know what your doctor has to say, okay?
