Nerves getting out of hand......

Hi there ladies!

My total hysterectomy and tummy tuck with muscle repair is coming up this Monday. It's been a hectic week with pre-op at Plastic Surgeons on Monday. Then today I had my pre-op with gyno followed by pre-op at the hospital. I am extremely tired, not sleeping much, and my nerves are getting the best of me. I am worried about doing the prep because the stress is causing some diarrhea as it is. Also, I have been extremely emotional this past week. Ridiculous really with eyes welling up watching Dancing with the Stars, Glee, and just about any old thing. I have never felt like this.

My gyno is a great female doctor who has been with me for years doing anything to help me avoid a hysterectomy. I had mentioned after having an ablation three years ago how much I hated surgery. I had once joked of a tummy tuck to get rid of so much belly skin when she was doing my annual poking of the gut. Of course, I said I wasn't really being serious because I would have to go under anesthesia again! With the increased bleeding since February, followed by biopsies and an inter-vaginal sonogram, this year she said it was time. Even at my age, my hormones are showing no signs of menopause which might shrink these fibroids either. She even suggested having that tummy tuck I have wanted for 28 years to soften the news of the surgery.

My husband has been very supportive as the hysterectomy became a necessity. He even encouraged the tummy tuck because he knows how I feel about my belly. I was surprised as he has never had a problem with my body. Now, my husband keeps asking if I want to call things off. At first, I was so excited that I would get a new body so out with the old (meaning the hysterectomy) but in with the new me. What is up with this change??? I know I need to have this hysterectomy! Has anyone else felt this way as you have gotten closer to your surgery?

Re: Nerves getting out of hand......

I would not do it unless you are certain you NEED it! I would rather pay for 100 tummy tucks than go through it again. I am really not trying to be a debbie downer but I have been through the ringer so my advice is to only do it if it is totally necessary. Hugs V

Dear Valerie, You are not alone it is totally normal to have all these doubts!!! I was still having them even after waking up from surgeryI had a TAH/BSO. You are a very Blessed women as I am. We both have doctors that we trust and supportive DH's. The hospital staff is amazing, they are soooo trained to do this....I encourage you to take medication to calm your nerves and pain meds also. Our bodies are fighting the stress and that is not good for our physical well being. You are worthy and loved, and I believe we are soooo fortunate to have the options we have!!! You are not a whimp by any means, look what you have endured so far Hang in their and take care of you and here's the tough part...let others take care of you.

God's Blessing for peace....I am 3 days post op now and at home.

Thanks so much. I am still stressed and have been taking one xanax at night which they prescribed for me on Wednesday to take each evening through tomorrow to help with nerves. I feel like I have so much to do, but these nerves are almost paralyzing at times. I am slowing getting things done with much to finish tomorrow since my light meals and prep day is Sunday. Mine is a TAH/BSO too with the added muscle repair. Reading has been good but with some of the complications, it just gets the wheels going again. Someone's post about pubic swelling and how it can become permanent especially when you have the combined procedures I have scheduled upset me. They call it "Ken doll" syndrome because you end up having a flat belly but your pubic mound stays enlarged and is evident even in clothes. That one got to me so much my dh says"you can always cancel that part if you have concerns. I know it is probably a small percentage so I am trying to stay strong. I just am ready to wake up after surgery at this point. At least this pre-op jitter part will be over, and I will know how things have turned out....... I am sure I will still have doubts as you are even then.

Thanks for the blessing. I have been reading "The Operation" prayer from this site trying to give these worries up to Him! I am so happy you are home and had a wonderful experience at the hospital. I hope to be letting you know how great things were for me later next week!
Thanks again for your support.
