incision

hello..
i am having a total TAH on july 12 , (extreme pain and lot's of bleeding)
my doctor is doing a vertical incision , he say's because i have had surgery's done on my bladder in the past and he is worried about scar tissue and want's to be sure to have a really good view of things. was wondering if any one else has heard of this.
also , wamted to know if anyone had trouble with their bladder after surgery... and
how long does the catheter usually stay in.
sorry so many questions.......but getting nervous .

Hi,

Some doctors do prefer to use a vertical incision, as it allows for better visualization of the surgical site.

As for the catheter, it's usually inserted after you're asleep in the OR, and it's usually removed the next morning, unless you've had some type of bladder repair that may necessitate it staying in longer.

Don't worry about asking too many questions. There's no such thing! (And that's what we're here for! )
