No Bowel Prep

My doctor hasn't prescribed a bowel prep? Is that unusual?? Not to say I haven't had my fill of them in the past. Woud it be different because were going with a LAVH that only has a small chance of being an TAH?

Wow, you lucky girl....lol You may well end up with it at your pre-op or pre-admittance visit. I am not sure if the different surgery would make a huge difference. I suffer from IBS and I want to be clean when I go in....For my own safety!! My advice would be to call your dr and ask....

I'm going in for a TVH and she ordered no bowel prep...I asked her and she said she orders those for TAH's....I'm not sure why though. We've been reprieved and thats a good thing...

I have no bowel prep either.
Must be an abdominal thing.

I had abdominal surgery and no bowel prep. I was very surprised when I read about it. I did eat light the day before...just for my own comfort.

I wonder why some people get it and some don't must be a Dr's preference thing then.

Different DR's have different preferences. I'm not sure if it can be attributed to "old" school vs "new"school thinking or what. Sometimes it can be if the DR feels the bowel might be involved, ie adhesions, etc. they may want the bowels to be empty.

As far as post op problems are concerned, whether or not bowel prep had to be done, some members have more issues with gas and constipation than others.

The important thing to remember is to follow the instructions that your DR gave you.
