itchy incisions 2.5 weeks post hysterectomy

I am 2.5 weeks post op. I will hit 3 weeks on thursday. I know this is normal but my incisions are SO itchy! especially the one right under my belly button. it makes me just want to rip my belly button off! that one itches the worst! also that one is almost all the way off. each side is peeled off but just hanging in the middle. is that OK? it's not too soon for them to start peeling back is it?

Same thing happened to me. I pulled the steri strips off when the were loose. I used hydrocortisone cream on my incisions and that helped some. But I found a tube of vagisil and used that, numbed the itchiness wonderfully!!! Which is good cuz I was ready to peal my skin off too lol.

Re: itchy incisions

Well, the good news is that your incision is healing but unfortunately, that promotes the itching. If youre referring to the steri-strips, if theyre lifting & the incision looks closed, then you can take them off. They tend to fall off at 10 days +. Most of mine were on at week 2 but Most were lifting. After a shower, lift both ends of the strips at the same time. Showering can help with the itching. After a shower, use a blow dryer to dry the incision. Air it out & when you get dressed, apply a pad over incision. it prevents rubbing & wicks moisture or perspiration which may add to the itchy feeling. Call your Dr ask if its OK to apply anything topical.
