5 weeks post hysterectomy -- wearing a toddler?

Hi friends, this is my first post. If I put it in the wrong place please tell me.

I'm attending a big event in two weeks, and I had my hyst on 07/24. It was the keyhole, fully elective, no complications.

My close friend who is also going has a 2 year old. He loves me and always wants to be picked up by someone. She has a Kinderpack that fits us both great. I'm going to ask my surgeon when I see him next week, but if someone else did the lifting/put him on my back, could I wear him with the Kinderpack? They distribute weight so well you barely know you've got someone back there.

I've been following the "nothing heavier than a gallon of milk" lifting restriction faithfully otherwise.

Thanks!

Re: 5 weeks post--wearing a toddler?

Welcome!

I had a DaVinci laparoscopic total hysterectomy 6.5 weeks ago, and I was told (today, in fact) that I was STILL not to lift anything heavier than 15 lbs - an upgrade from the nothing heavier than 10 lbs. Your intentions are lovely, but if I were you, I would absolutely NOT carry a squirming, 2 year-old toddler in any way, shape or form!

Re: 5 weeks post--wearing a toddler?

It doesn't matter how well the Kinderpack distributes the weight, the number of pounds is still the same. My doc cleared me to lift up to 30 lbs at four weeks after surgery. I carried almost that much home from the store in a backpack and certainly felt that my body was getting close to its limits.

If your doctor doesn't clear you to lift at least as much as the toddler weighs, you can't carry the toddler. And if your doc clears you to lift that much, you're likely to find that you can't carry the toddler for very long.

I had a feeling this was going to be the case. :/ I will NOT risk it then. Thank you ladies!
