I don't know why you are having a hysterectomy. Is it for endo? if it is some doctors like to have women take lupron after to make sure the endo is gone.
If it isn't for endo I don't know why the doctor would have you on it.
I have never heard of lupron being used to make an incision smaller. That's a new one to me since I have had alot of surgeries.
another question is how long are you going to be on lupron? The suggestion is no longer than 6 months.
I was taking depo provera prior to my hysterectomy. I had my hysterectomy the day I would have gotten another shot. I never had to.

lupron to minimize scar
i'm sorry i didn't explain things. i have numerous fibroids. i was on lupron last june, july and august to shrink them. they did shrink. now last month i ended up in the e.r. in tremendous pain. my doc said he would like the fibroids to shrink so that he won't have to make a large cut. i am having an abdominal hyst. i am scheduled for june. he informed me of numerous options, however, i don't wish to have any more children so i think this is what i should do. doc says just the uterus, unless he sees reason to remove other organs. i do have a lot of faith in him, it's just i was literally screamed at on the phone from someone that it doesn't make any sense to her. why am i doubting my judgement. my husband agrees. my friend has had numerous abdominal surgeries, does she really know better. several family members as well as friends use this doc. is this just bull???

It seems like you have friends and family that don't understand why having a hysterectomy is a good option for you. It is difficult enough to get to that decision. It isn't something anyone enters into lightly.
Yes it is bull.. You need to do what is best for you. Remember they aren't the ones living with your pain, bleeding, etc. I've learned that some people will never understand. But, others will accept it.
I'm glad to hear your doctor gave you options to choose from.
I understand the doctor using the lupron to shrink the fibroids. But, I don't understand why after the surgery. I would definitely question that.
I hope this helps you.

lupron to minimize scar
It makes sense that he wants you to take the Lupron to reduce the size of the fibroids. I had an abdominal incision for my RSO that goes from just below my belly button to right above the hairline; this was due to so much scar tissue that they were unable to use my old c-section scar as everything up above it was frozen with adhesions. I took Lupron with addback for almost two years and then went off when I started bleeding again and had too many mood swings. The endo came back and I was in such excruciating pain late last year that I asked to be put back on it. I finally switched doctors and insurance plans as my doctor didn't want to do a hysterectomy due to possible bowel damage. When the new doctor did my hyst, he was able to open less of the old incision (even though I was having a lot more done) as he said that the Lupron had taken care of a lot of the endo, so I was glad I went back on it (and switched doctors)! Good luck to you, and don't pay attention to your screaming friends, especially if your doctor is recommending this. I was a little confused when I first read your post, but then I figured that he must have been talking about making a smaller cut. If I were in your shoes (and I have been!), I would listen to your doctor and not your friends - you'll be glad you did!

lupron to minimize scar
Hi Suszq,
I used Lupron to thin my endometrial lining for endometrial ablation and shrink my fibroids for myomectomy. Mine didn't change much, but they were small to begin with.
I've seen multiple posts on here from women who have used Lupron in hopes of shrinking their fibroids before hysterectomy. Some have better results than others. I hope they shrink for you again this time, if you decide to continue the lupron route.
A second opinion is always a good idea before major surgery, so this is something you could ask another doctor about if you are uncomfortable with it.
Best wishes & s to you,
Beth
