Will Progesterone tx affect Biopsy Results???

Long story short.... my gyn doesn't know what to do... didn't perform a biopsy yesterday because of too much bleeding...And, YES I do have a referral to new gyno!!!

Bad gyno gives me Rx for progesterone to stop bleeding to perform biopsy someday in distant future, BUT she says she is concerned about altering the lining that I "have very unusual findings on U/S"

My question is do I take the progesterone or just wait till I see my new gyn that might know what the hell she is doing? I would like the bleeding to stop but do not want to change any test results.

Also, my blood levels are at 10.2 and 35.6% both lower than normal ranges ... so I don't know what to do while waiting for my next appt on 8/9.

Any info or advice would be appreciated.....

I would call new gyno's office and ask what they want you to do.

I agree with Kybbi. And now I know a possible reason why my cancer didn't show in the biopsy - I was having heavy bleeding and my GYN went ahead and did it anyway.

Re: Will Progesterone tx affect Biopsy Results???

I had an endometrial biopsy while bleeding very heavily (that's what brought me in to a doctor's office while I was in NYC for a month). The tech to determine cancer cells at pathology labs can totally tell the difference between menstrual blood and cancerous cells. There is no reason to hold off on proper testing - even cervical pap smears can now be done well during heavy periods. I've been reassured of this a million times. I'm not a doctor, but I would definitely ask a lot of doctors and get tests no matter what your bleeding situation is.

The only advice I have, for real, is that you take this into your own hands. Every doctor and gyn has varying levels of experience. I lucked out and randomly happened upon a NYC gyno who, without knowing me, just did an endometrial biopsy (painful!! ask for meds!!!) and it turned out to be grade 1 cancer. I believe firmly that this never would have happened with my nice doctor back home in Seattle. It would have been at a much later stage.

Best of luck and strength and bravery to you.

p.s. get copies of ALL of your medical records at every visit. Tell them to fax/send them to you if they don't have them on hand. DO NOT let them tell you that you don't need them. Carry a binder. Keep notes. Keep track of all actual biopsy slides. Bring people with you to appointments to keep notes. Big hug.

Re: Will Progesterone tx affect Biopsy Results???

Are you post or pre menopausal? It's interesting they adminstered progesterone to you. I'm just curious if the progesterone helped control the bleeding.

My mom, 62 had post meno bleeding, went to ER/docs/etc and they didn't administer any hormones.

wish you a smooth road ahead and speedy recovery.
