Flying after surgery

Does anyone know how soon we are cleared to fly?? I have a doctor's appoinment and can ask then but I sort of want to get my ticket now! It is a west to east coast flight so about 6 hours total. Was wondering if it is better to have a connection or take a non stop. Appreciate any input!!! Thanks! Oh, by the time I fly, it will be 1 1/2 month from my surgery date.

Flying after surgery

I flew at 5 weeks post op. No problems, but I was still sore when sitting for long periods of time. When I asked my doctor, he told me after two weeks would be okay.

Flying after surgery

Thanks so much for the information. My flight would be around 6 hours non stop. I can always book one with one stop so I do not sit for a long time. Only problem is I will waste more time. Anyway I appreciate your input!!

Flying after surgery

I went from SLC to Orlando 3 weeks post op. I did OK, the air pressure was painful at times but it wasn't bad.

Flying after surgery

Thanks for the info. I have little pain now so in a few weeks I will even be better!!! Had the 1st post op today and he cleared me to fly. He said just to make sure that I walk around to prevent blood clots or wear TED hose! The flight will be around 5 hours so that is not bad. I so appreciate input from this forum though!! Where would I be without my hystersisters!!!! YAY!

Flying after surgery

I flew 10 days post-op. (LAVH). My surgery was done last minute, out of state, and I just wanted to be home. My doc let me fly so soon because the flight was only 2 hours, but told me to get up and walk around if I could. I think the biggest concern was the possibility for blood clots sitting so long so soon after surgery. It was very uncomfortable sitting that long... but I had no lasting problems. A pillow under the seatbelt helped.
