Looking for info
Hi,
I have a fibroid tumor that they estimate to be 27cm and 16lbs, they are pretty sure it is benign. I am scheduled to have it removed and a TAHBSO on 4/25.
Would like to know if anyone has had similiar experience and recovery time.
I had a my gall bladder taken out 6 years ago the hard way and was in the hospital 3 days and 3 weeks out of work, but much longer until feelling 100%.
I like to hike and kayak, hope the whole summer won't be lost, but can always go on nice walks.
Thanks for any information you have.

Life after TAH/BSO
Hi Hiker,
I had large fibroids and had a TAH/BSO on March 29th. Spent three days in the hospital (surgery on the 29th; home on the 1st) and have found recovery to be uneventful and easier than I expected. I have totally taken it easy -- I'm fortunate in that I don't have to rush back to work and I have had food deliveries since I got home. My dh and 17 year old son are independent and don't need me to do much of anything, so I've been able to recover slowly and carefully. I have been taking walks of about a mile every day. Yesterday I tried to clean up my closet and found I did too much -- some stomach pain last night, so I vegged out and today I'm back to normal. Normal at this stage is tummy still tender, but improving daily.
If you want to read the whole story of the surgery and hospital experience, look at the pre-op section. I posted it on April 3 (I think).
I'm still working on getting the hormones straight. My doctor started me with a menostar patch, which isn't enough estrogen to prevent hot flashes. I hope to get a more potent patch when I go back in a few weeks now that I'm having batches of flashes every day and sweats at night. Otherwise, I feel pretty good.
Every body is different, but I think you'll find you can have some quality recreation time this summer. I plan to go back to the gym when the month is up to walk and to resume weight training (with the doctor's ok) at the 6-8 week mark.
Hope your experience is as (relatively) easy as mine has been. Good luck!
