Re: Second Opinion Anyone try UAE?
When going through my options we discussed UAE as the minor surgery option. I also researched it before going to the doctor. I have fibroids, adenomyosis, possible endometreosis and cystic ovaries so it is not an option for me BUT from everything i have found out it seems more of a short term solution.
The only cure for fibroids and adenomyosis is a hysterectomy but UAE can be good for someone who has no other problems other than fibroids. The biggest problem i find with it is it doesn't guarantee that you will not have more fibroids and a hysterectomy in the future. It probably wouldn't hurt to start with that route if you are not ready for a hysterectomy which it seems you are not. .
As for the doctor that won't call you back could it possibly be because of the lack of notice? I get you wanting to cancel but having an OR and the staff booked for the procedure is very costly and chances are the doctor may had to pay for some expenses out of pocket so he may be mad about that. I know i signed a paper that if i cancel anytime after the 4 week mark i am on the hook fully for the full cost.

Re: Second Opinion Anyone try UAE?
Hi sweetcanadian. 4 weeks advance I have never heard of here. It maybe doctor is mad but doubt it because the hospital surgery center gave me the number to call if I felt sick like runny nose or anything to cancel and reschedule. Plus, my neighbor knows surgery nurses who work there and after the fact I spoke with them and they shared people cancel all the time and doctors do too. . . So will see. I am hoping candidate for UFE I am close enough to menopause that I hope fibroid doesn't have much time to grow back or very large. I will not go back to the original gynecologist.

Re: Second Opinion Anyone try UAE?
I had never heard of it either. didn't have to do that with my previous surgeries. I am thinking it is because it being specialty and what it is that the spot may not get filled.
ANyways, good luck to you!! I wouldn't go back to a gyno you are not comfortable with either. Too many options to be wasting like that.

Second Opinion Anyone try UAE?
UFE/UAE is NOT a short term solution. It is a proven procedure that many women have used to rid their bodies of fibroids and preserve their organs for quite some time now.
A hysterectomy isn't a cure as it can lead to long term negative side effects that can impact a women for the rest of her life. So while it may "cure" your fibroids, you can end up in worse shape than before a hysterectomy. It is very serious surgery that many women are ill informed about from the start.
And to address your comment on the doctor...a bad doctor is exactly that. Any doctor that tells you are responsible for payment if you cancel is not a good doctor.
A great caring doctor wants you to be confident and secure in your decision. Surgeries are cancelled at the very last minute for many reasons and I've never heard of such rubbish as being charged because of it.
I cancelled mine with a less than 24 hour window. My surgeon was happy that I called him at home on a Sunday to tell him I had serious doubts I was doing the right thing. The next day I met him at his office and we came up with an alternative plan.
The plan included UFE and a myomectomy. It's been over two years and I'm still fibroid free. I almost had major surgery that ended up being unnecessary.
A good doctor helps you find the best treatment for you. Not his bank account. Any doctor that asks you to sign a document like you did is a huge red flag.

Re: Second Opinion Anyone try UAE?
We do not pay for our healthcare/hospital stays BUT every single specialist has a fee for cancelled/missed appointments, they are usually 1/2 of what the fee for service is. Not sure if doctors are that way in the states bu Chiro, physio, massage, GP, they are all the same with their policies.

Re: Second Opinion Anyone try UAE?
I resisted the hysterectomy for over 5 years. Tried herbal supplements which helped some; had an UAE. The UAE worked for about a year and a half. Unfortunately, it ended up I had much bigger issues that could only be solved with a hysterectomy (which I just had 4 weeks ago).
I would suggest going with an UAE (and a new doctor) since you are not ready. I did that and when a hysterectomy become unavoidable was able to feel good about that. I think having the UAE helped me realize that I had done all I could and that to have a good quality of life I would have to go a step further. Taking that small step (UAE) first helped me prepare emotionally.
Since I'm still recovering I can't say that I feel great yet, but I can say it's nice to know I will never have those same issues again.
I wish you luck with your decision. And spend some time finding a doctor you can work with....ask those nurses you know. They know which doctors are good and which ones to avoid.
