Re: Endometrial biopsy - anyone familiar with this?

Sure. An endometrial biopsy is a routine office test done to get a cell sample of the lining of your uterus. You may experience some cramping pain during the biopsy, but it's over with quickly. Ibuprofen is your friend.

One of the most common reasons for doing an endometrial biopsy is to check for endometrial precancer or cancer. Often doctors will do a biopsy before they do a hysterectomy not because they *think* cancer is present but just as a precaution to find out *if* it is, since this can affect how the surgery is done.

On the other hand, women who show possible symptoms of endometrial cancer may have a biopsy as part of the standard diagnostic procedure.

Re: Endometrial biopsy - anyone familiar with this?

I've had two. Was so scared, as I read horror stories. In reality, for me anyway, nothing more than a "pinch" feeling for about a minute. Never even took pain relievers. No spotting for me although spotting is common.

Feels like a Pap smear with an added pinch. I clenched my fists really hard, closed my eyes, and just laid really still.

For what it's worth, both of mine came back negative.

I'm a little nervous every time I have to go through *any* kind of medical procedure I haven't had before. I've never had a procedure that actually lived up to the degree of anxiety I bestowed on it beforehand! :-)

Re: Endometrial biopsy - anyone familiar with this?

Hi, I had an endometrial biopsy a couple months ago. My gyn. gave me the option of having it done in her office, or having it done at a surgery center. She told me that going to the surgery center was better for her because she could get a bigger and better sample. I chose the surgery center. The anesthetic was like what you would get with a colonoscopy, very light but not aware it was happening. It just took 15 minutes. I don't know if you have that option, but if you want to ask about it you should. I'm sure both are fine. I hope your experience is quick, the results are negative, and you can move on to a healthy life.

Thank you. I do have some questions for the doctor. They mentioned being able to get a good specimen
