Prolapse repairs or hyst?

Hello there, I can totally relate to the scared and confused. Originally, I had gone to the gynecologist for a follow-up on a questionable pap, and had mentioned that I felt my uterus was prolapsing, while I was there. The doctor didn't see me that day, but his nurse practitioner did, and said I could come get fitted for a pessary, which I did, at a subsequent appointment. The pessary order form was returned, saying it was undeliverable. When I next went to the gyno's office, for the colposcopy, the doctor himself did that, and said I'd need the hysterectomy, done both abdominally and vaginally, to tack up my prolapses. Get this, I have no period, anymore, so there's no heavy bleeding, and the followup pap came back clear, so why should I have a hysterectomy as opposed to the prolapse repairs? I'm 52, but should that make any difference? I've read such horror stories about all the physical changes hysterectomies bring about, and now I want nothing to do with it. Does anyone have anything to say about this? I'd appreciate it. I'm so hurt and confused, why he'd want to do something so radical,in the absence of severe symptoms. Thank you.

Prolapse repairs or hyst?

Hi Raedreams

It sure sounds like second opinion time. You are the only person who has so far seen the full picture. Keep painting it until a doctor sees it with you. I turn 51 next month, and I hear you. Hoping good things for you.

Prolapse repairs or hyst?

Raedreams some Doctors just want to get rid of organs "just in case". Please see a different Doctor. With no heavy bleeding and good Pap results there is no reason to remove anything IMHO I would agree with you..why not just repair the prolaspe?? Find a Dr your happy with and feel you can trust. Good luck!

Prolapse repairs or hyst?

Hi Raedreams

Here is a link to the prolapse section of our Resources Directory: https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/lin...=browse&cid=27 The first website listed has a message board with lots of members who are living with prolapse or have had repairs without a hyst.

Keep asking questions... you may want to get a consultation with a uro-gynecologist or a doc who specializes in pelvic floor repair.

I am sending huge cyberhugs
