Medication or surgery?

Any regret to putting off surgery and trying medication first? I have a large 14 cm fibroid. Dr has provided a number of options; up to me to either manage symptoms with medication or full hysterectomy. Problem is I'm not sure which of my symptoms are related to the fibroid. Heavy monthly, I know. But, lower back pain, tiredness, sore feet, going to the bathroom more? Anyone else have these symptoms? I think I'm leaning towards surgery, but thinking whether it is necessary.

Medication or surgery?

I don't have a fibroid but have endometriosis. I tried 1 year of Lupron injections before I was diagnosed with osteoporosis and had to stop them. The injections worked great for me but now I have surgery on Thursday. Just weight out all your options and keep researching. Hope all goes well for you!

Re: Medication or surgery?

Hi ladies,
I'm weighing up options as well and would like to know the answers you seek.
I have endometriosis, adenomyosis and a submucosal fibriod my bleeding is easing up naturally I think although have had some issues. Pain is my biggest concern I've had lots of it from the adhesions caused by the endo and a new pain which I can only put down to the fibroid or adenomyosis it feels different to usual cramps more intense. I am interested to know what you opt for and how it all goes. At present I have mirena which helps the bleeding but I'm not convinced re pain control.

Re: Medication or surgery?

Keep in mind that you can always try the meds first and then, if they don't work out for you, have surgery. It doesn't work the other way around.

Have you had a second opinion? Another doctor could help you sort through your options, may be able to offer new insights, and could help you with your decision.
