Cervix sealed from scar tissue anyone have this problem

Several years ago I had a conization to remove part of my cervix due to an abnormal pap test, came back negative for cancer. Now many years later Dr needs to do a biopsy after MRI saw some free fluid in endometrium along with degenerating fibroids. I am post menopause. Dr tried D&C with no luck could not penetrate the cervix says I need hysterectomy. Just wondering if there isn't another way to open my cervix. Dr said it is very risky and could damage my bowel or bladder. What about cryosurgery. I have no symptoms at all with my fibroids and really dont want a hysterectomy if I don't have to have one. Pap test was negative. Got 2nd opinion and was told the same thing from another Dr.

Hi emd1126

I'm sorry you are facing this tough decision. Although I don't have the history you are looking for, we have had several members here who've posted about cervical stenosis and the challenge it brings.

If you do a HysterSisters Search here (upper right corner of any page) you should turn up some previous threads about it. If you do a regular web search you'll find lots of information also. A regular web search for "cervical stenosis" will bring up tons of hits about stenosis (narrowing) of the cervical SPINE, so you'll want to add something like "cervical stenosis + uterus" or "uterine cervical stenosis" etc.

I've seen posts from some members mentioning having a trachelectomy (removal of just the cervix, "neck" of the uterus.) But don't know if that would be a desirable option for you with your other possible conditions of concern.

Kudos to you for getting a 2nd opinion. It's perfectly okay to get more professional advice if you are not comfortable with the information you have so far. A good option for you might be to seek the opinion of an oncology/gyn since they're the experts at determining risk/ safety recommendations.

I hope you find the information you are looking for.
Sending gentle s,
Beth

Cervix sealed from scar tissue anyone have this problem

EMD;

I too am faced with a hysterectomy (June 18th) because of an abnormal PAP test. Dr. was unable to do in-office biopsy...blocked. Went in for D & C in May and she was again unable to enter uterus because of scarring, fibroids and tilted uterus. She actually perforated the uterus resulting in my having to stay in hospital 24 hours for observation (bleeding, infection or damage to bowel).

Now I am going through with the hysterectomy without any further testing...just the PAP test that shows endometrial cells (which could indicate cancerous growths in uterus). With my immediate family history of cancer I am not willing to take this risk so I am having operation done without regret.
Hopefully the results will come back "all normal" and I can be happy with my choice.

Just this morning I went to see another specialist to determine if I need a bladder lift...which I do. So I will be having that done aswell while I am opened up anyway. Two birds...

I did ask my dr about ANY other way of getting test samples from my uterus (laproscopically, vaginally) but was told no also.

Keeping remaining ovary (other removed last June) so I will not have to start any replacement therapy yet.

So not looking forward to the sleepless nights again...I am a side sleeper and can't handle sleeping on my back. I have also bought a large abdominal support belt. I found that when I was bound up from last surgery it made moving around alot more comfortable.

Good luck in your quest for information.

Teena,
I hope your hysterectomy went well, and that the resulting uterine biopsy was negative.
I'm in the same boat as you and EMD. I had an ablation 8 years ago, have been menopausal for the last 2, and started having bleeding episodes 3 months ago.
As a result of the ablation, when we went to do the endometrial biopsy, we hit a wall--literally. My cervix is a mass of scar tissue, with no real entry to the uterus. My doc doesn't think a D&C would go any better, not to mention the risk of perforation.
So, now it's to have a hysterectomy or not. The ultrasound showed nothing exceptional, and my PAP was fine.
However, the monthly bleeding episodes mean that something's amiss, and it's vigorous enough for the equivalent of a 5-day period to find its way through the scar tissue maze more than once.
I have no real support system (just moved to the area a year ago to be closer to widowed elderly father), and will have to get by on a 60% disability benefit, but I can't see just ignoring the situation.
Anyone think I should just "get over it" and not have the hysterectomy?

Oh my gosh, me too!!!!! I had my ablation in January '07. Can't even do a saline sono. I am running fever and having pain. I probably have an infection in there somewhere. Lets keep in touch and see if we can figure this out together.

My Mom had some procedure done years ago, she never told me what it was but she did say that her cervix was lasered closed. She has to be put to sleep for her PAP which she says she has done about every 5 years. She is past menopause so has no bleeding any more. But it is rough for her when she has to have her PAP's

I'm in the same boat! I failed the saline sonogram - painful and didn't work.. went under GA for a hysteroscopy.. could not get in at all... she did cervical biopsy... that was normal but we still have dysfunctional uterine bleeding and an area in the uterine wall that is not right. Consult is Oct 11. She told my husband, hysterectomy is next. Fine. let's just schedule it.. i do not want to gamble on a maybe if you can't test it. How did you make out? I know this is an old thread....
