adsecretary, I have the same problems you do, and am VERY reluctant to be down six-plus weeks with diabetic healing worries. Doc is insistent that I cannot have LAVH or anything laparoscopic because I have not had children and because "getting that ovary/dermoid cyst out laparoscopically before the D&C was really a tough job."
Y'all will excuse me if I vent a bit and say that I'm highly ticked that he's come back and said now that I need a TAH *after* I told him to just take the whole thing when he went in the first time and I had the six weeks available to take off. (I have a weird job; only time long sick leave is an option is December to January, and that's it.) He kept saying, "No, we won't need to do that, you might want to have kids" even though I told him repeatedly I am NOT planning to have biological children.
I hate that he had to work so hard the first time (ha), but I really hate that he doesn't want to work hard again to do an LAVH to prevent some potentially bad post-surgical healing risks for me. Grrr.
Sorry to hijack the thread; will be monitoring for follow-up answers. Best wishes and quick healing to all y'all.

Hi Scout-in re-reading the boards I came about your post and I have hyperplasia atypia....3 doctors recommended a total hysterectomy including removing the ovaries. I'm in my early 50's and now am looking for a GynOnc who will perform the surgery laproscopically if I qualify. I cannot bear a six week recovery period and one of the gyn I consulted said she's seen many complications from hysterectomies performed on diabetic patients.

For: Grandefille,
Your post got me thinking because I have seen some ladies post that they had a vaginal hyst w/o having had a child. Found this H.S. link:

Grandefille,
I never gave birth and I was able to have a TVH. Since I was unsure about this being a possibility I asked other docs about it while getting second opinions and they all told me it was possible depending on the placement of my uterus in my pelvic area, the size of my fibroids, and the skill of my doctor. I can happily report that my TVH turned out great and that everything worked out just fine.
Good luck all!

5 weeks post op TAH
I was diagnosed with hyperplasia as well. It took me about a year to work through it all. Initially too many, sporatic periods. My first D & C diagnosed hyperplasia. 3 months of Progesterone led to another D & C that found only "patches" of hyperplasia. Another 3 months of Progesterone and about ready for a 2nd D & C and I started bleeding sporaticaly again. In my discussions with my Dr. WE decided that there was obviously still a problem and the 2nd D & C would only confirm that.
I'm 43, no children and a history of breast cancer 4 yrs ago. I was NOT willing to take hormones to "control" this problem for any length of time. I didn't want to take the chance of finding out someday that I had cancer and have to deal with that emotional & physical rollercoaster.
I made the decision for a TAH with the condition that 1 ovary be left no matter what. It both were good, leave both. If I had problems with the remaining ovary later on, then a simple laproscopy to remove it seemed like a better option that being thrown into menopause suddenly now.
My doctor didn't want to do vaginal surgery as I hadn't had children so a bilateral was performed. Yes, it's been definately challenging these past 5 weeks dealing with the limitations but I know that once this is all past me, no more worries at all!!!!
Sorry to be so long winded, this is my first posting and guess I had alot to say. Bottom line for me was gathering the information, figuring out what I wanted to do and them letting the Doctor know what MY decision was. Don't let anyone talk you into anything. Take control!
