Back to Surgery I Go!!

Hi, I have posted a little on the "Road less Traveled." I never thought in a million years I would be able to again post on "Pre-Op."

Just a quick overview. I had a TVH on August 28th of last year and they left both ovaries. Now only 6 months later I have a tumor on one of the ovaries so he is removing both ovaries on February 26th. I am scared and frustrated. This time he will be doing an abdominal incision, so I have to learn how to take care of myself this time. Last time with the TVH I had no problems and was back to work in 4 weeks. I did have to have a catheter last time for 8 days because he did a bladder repair too. So at least this time I can look forward to not coming home with a catheter. I carried it around in a shopping bag for 8 days!

I am not sure what it is even called when they are removing just the ovaries. I need to read up on the hormone situation. He said I would go on them right after the surgery.

This site was such a help to me before my last surgery. Good luck to all going through it for the first time. And thanks everyone for all the help.

Trish

Good Luck

I wish you the best of luck with your upcoming surgery.

You are really something, I don't know if I could be so calm about it.

I had an LAVH/RSO w/appendectomy on 1/8 & I am always scared that they will have to go back in a couple of years from now & remove the remaining one.

I'm so sorry that this has happened to you, but you have all these wonderful sisters here that are behind you every step of the way. Please keep us posted.

Back to Surgery I Go!!

Trish,

When just the ovaries are removed it's called an oophorectomy.

Good luck!

Back to Surgery I Go!!

Or a BSO for short. Hopefully you will recover quickly and maybe won't have as much swelling as with a TAH. Sorry you have to go through this again. I feel great on Estrace, but some women have a difficult time finding the right type and dosage of HRT that makes them feel best. Your dr will work with you to find one. You can check "hormone replacement" sites with your search engine, too. Researchers think we can take HRT indefinitely, with only a slight possible risk of breast cancer developing. (They think cancer really is due to a woman's genetics, and not specifically to the HRT.) The latest study of HRT was on older women, average age of 67, which showed not much benefit, but that doesn't apply to us younger women! We get protection from osteoporosis, thinning vaginal tissues, hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, and possibly alzheimers, heart disease, and depression. Hugs and best wishes!
