7 days post hysterectomy: Severe lower right pain

This is my first time on this site and hoping for some feedback. I had a hysterectomy 7 days ago. She went in through my c-section scar for the procedure because I also had scar revision done. She was able to leave my ovaries. I have been in, what I would think, normal pain until yesterday. Now I am having severe pain in my lower right abdomen, just to the left of my pelvic bone. I see my doc tomorrow for my first follow up but I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this pain as well. I see old posts of women that never got a real answer and I just thought I would see if anyone had any new things to add. Thanks for any info.

Re: Severe lower right pain

I too had severe pain in my lower right abdomen/pelvis last week. Initially I thought it was my appendix but after a lot of research and process of elimination realized it was more constipation related. That too can cause RLQ pain due to the pressure it's putting on the pelvic floor and may irritate the appendix but not severe enough to inflame it. Have u had a BM daily? If so, does the pain seem to ease up afterwards? If not I would take stool softeners and increase water and fiber intake if your not already doing so. Also I found that a hearing pad over my blanket covering that area helped A LOT! Best of luck and welcome.

The area you've described is where your colon comes off the end of your small intestine, then travels upwards to the waist, before it makes a 90° turn to head across your body; your appendix is in the same general area. After the surgery, your intestinal tract rearranges itself to fill the space left by your uterus, plus it tends to be a little sluggish for the first few weeks, which can cause gas and poop to become stuck in that area. To get things movimg, be sure you're taking regular walks, and drinking enough water so that your urine is clear or pale yellow, which can really help. Having a hot beverage can also help; my top picks include peppermint or ginger tea, crushed fennel seeds steeped in hot water, and a glass of warm water with the juice of half a lemon. Also try supplementing your diet with magnesium, which promotes proper bowel function; food sources include leafy greens, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate. Another of my top tips, to get things moving as nature intended, is to squat on the toilet right after a meal; this stimulates the gastro-colic reflex, in which the stomach tells the brain that it's full, then the brain tells the colon to empty its contents, to make room for the new stuff coming in, and the squat position properly aligns the rectum, so everything can pass through more smoothly. Also try massaging your abdomen, starting at the right hip, moving up to the waist, across your belly button to the left side, then down and across, back to the starting point. This follows the path of your colon, and should help to move everything through. Here's hoping you'll be back to 💩 soon, and rid of this annoying pain!

Re: 7 days post hysterectomy: Severe lower right pain

I am 7 days today, I had a Davinci complete hysterectomy. The majority of my pain has been in this area since day 1. Also the bruise I have there is nothing short of quite magnificent. Tiger Eye's response makes a lot of sense to me. I feel so many weird things in my tummy, it's nice to at least know why.....

Ok thank you.. I had a rough night with it. That was the first time it bothered me while laying down. But, so far so good this morning. I'm really excited to see the doc today and ask her about it too. Good luck with your recovery and thanks for the response.

Re: 7 days post hysterectomy: Severe lower right pain

I'm 9 days today after having a DaVinci partial hysterectomy. I too am experiencing really bad lower back pain that is resignation to my lower left side of my pelvic area. Went to the Dr's yesterday and was told that it could be a spammed muscle due to the position I was in during surgery or possibly getting up in an incorrect fashion.
