Elevated Heart Rate

I had my DaVici Surgery 4/7/10 at 10:30 am, it took 4 hours to get it all out. There were two large chocolate cysts on my ovaries, one was the size of a softball and the other the size of a babies head. The larger one burst on the way out, and it took a while to clean up. Recovery room as to be an hour but I was there for 4 hours, they could not wake me up. Once I got to my room the nurse told me that I would be getting up in a few hours for a walk. My weight was taken and I had gained 11 pounds in less than 9 hours...yuck. I was given lots of IV's with different solutions as I was severly dehydrated, and my resting pulse was 125, normally is is 80-90. I had been given pills and the 2 2 liters of bowel prep on 4/6/10 and no food after 4 pm the day before surgery. I had lost over 200 ml of blood and you normally lose 60ml for the davinci. Now I am a diabetic II and take oral meds for it, and have high blood pressure that I also take meds for. The next day as soon as I passed gas I could be released...then they noticed that when I had terrible gas pains it made the heart rate go up, more blood work and more IV's and could not go home. The stomach had water in it that filled me up after a few bites so eating very little and nearly no sleep, maybe 4 hours a day. Everytime the door slid open it was loud and my heart would start thumping again... That night, if my heart rate stayed under 120 I could go home the next day...woke up that morning and it was 140!!!! I was so ticked, then the chest x rays, 6 more doctors, CT Scan ordered, 12 different blood viles taken, shots in the legs for blood thinning....Huge IV that was pushing through a bag as quickly as possible then another...with potassium and I forget what they rotated the other with. Tests came back good, just an elevated thyroid...If I got it below 120 I could go home late that afternoon, and they put me on Metoprolol 50 mg every morning and to see my intenal medicine doctor when I got home (4 hours waway). I have never ever ever had gas pains before, I read about them on here but never had them in all my 40 years....They are the worst ever!!! The pain level my body goes through when they start moving is blinding...and the heart rate rises.
Did anyone else have this problem with their heart? I have read everything I can find on here and am not hearing this issue anywhere. Please reply to me some how if you, a friend, or relative has had this and what it was caused by. Menapause, Pain meds,,,,I am looking for any info.
Sorry for the crazy spelling..not quite myself...lol I am overweight though I am active. We walk 5 miles a day and my heart rate is usually 148 when we finish. I have had a heart cath and every other test for the heart and all come back normal...I told them I am just nervous and uptight!lol

Re: Elevated Heart Rate

First of all, I want to say that I am sorry that you had so many complications but am thankful you made thru your surgery.

As this was posted in the pre-op area when it should be posted in the post-op area, I don't have any answers for you but perhaps the post-op sisters can answer your question. One of the moderators will most likely see this thread and will move it over to the correct area under Post-op so that you can get the support you need.

Take care.

Re: Elevated Heart Rate

(((tel))) I've moved your post over here to our Post Op forum, which is the place to post now that you've had your surgery.

Heart palpitations and high blood pressure can be symptoms of menopause. I get both when I try to lower my dose of estrogen.

Are you home now, then? When are you seeing your doctor next? I hope you get some answers.

s,
-Linda

Re: Elevated Heart Rate

Thanks Linda, you brought tears to my eyes....I see my surgeon in 4 weeks, and my internal doctor I am trying to get to see this week. They also said that my thyroid level was elevated. I was knocked out and tilted on my head too long, lol, when I am not so fuzzy I will post more to the story. But I agree the gas pains blew me away, NOTHING prepared me for them...or the rock hard gas infused stomach...I compare the feeling to a driver's car accident when you were not wearing your seat belt...
