Need advice: Progesterone for hotflashes?

Hi ladies

I hope everyone is getting stronger and more painless every day

I had a LAVH (cervix and uterus) on 3/25/11 for endo and adenomyosis. To treat my symptoms prior to surgery I had a 3 month Lupron shot back in December, and had mild hot flashes, but not bad. Now, when the shot should have worn off already, I've been getting hot flashes pretty annoyingly often, which is weird because I kept both ovaries.

I mentioned this in my post op, and my doctor didn't seem too concerned, he said it was probably still from the Lupron (but that was 4 months ago! and I didn't have the hot flashes nearly as intense or often until my surgery!) So he offered to put me on progesterone for a month or two if I wanted, he said it may help.

I am mildy concerned about taking it, as my doctor, who has been amazing this whole time seemed pretty indifferent, and wrote the script, and left it up to me.

Anyone else going through this? Should I take it? Is it worth the side effects? What are the side effects? The side effects listed were pretty ambiguous: May cause weight gain, or weight loss, may change attitude towards sex (positively or negatively), may cause change in mood (positively or negatively)

What the heck??? I mean, it makes them go away, I'll take it, but not at the expense of changing my body even more than I have already. I can deal with a hot flash every hour at the expense of feeling normal the rest of the day.

Has anyone tried this?

Re: Need advice: Progesterone for hotflashes?

Hi,
I was on progesterone for three months before my surgery (so I don't know if it's different after), but I did have some trouble with it. I had weight gain, mild depression, and it gave me extreme hot flashes at night. I was very relieved when I was off it. No more flashing...so nice.
