Work through the waiting...Paper Mache Ute?
Fantastic idea! Letting go in general can be such a challenge; a ritual can certainly help with clarity. My pre-op is 2/6 and surgery (TVH?) on 2/12. A group of friends are taking me out for lunch on 2/9 for what has just become a "uterus going away" party!
Love and light to all.
PS-still trying to decide whether or not to keep my one remaining ovary--any thoughts??

Work through the waiting...Paper Mache Ute?
Hello gracandgrit,
Sounds like a good idea catches on. We are going to the Castle on the same day.
As for keeping or not keeping your ovary...everyone is different. It seems you'll need to ask yourself some questions, what is the history of ovarian cancer in your family, what kind of risk is there for you? How far away from menopause are you and will you have to take hormones if you do loose the ovary? If you are close to menopause and wouldn't be using your ovary for long, does it make sense to keep it? If you are farther away from menopause, it might be worth keeping so you won't have to take HRT, which has it's own risks. It's also always good to talk to your Doc about all this if you have questions. I have made a list of questions for my pre-op appt., maybe that could work for you too.
I hope your trip to the Castle is smooth and comfortable.
Warm fuzzies to you.

Work through the waiting...Paper Mache Ute?
I just sat on my living room floor, buck nekkid, plastic sheeting laid out, dogs convinced I've totally lost it, and made my paper mache ute. It'll take time to dry, of course, and I hope to catch it when it's dry enough to press into a flatter, ute shape rather than balloon round.
It was awesome! So primal.
I also have pink balloons and the longer (balloon animal type) ones, and will at least attempt to make some balloon utes for my party. Haven't yet figured out how to attach the longer ones to look like fallopian tubes, but will play with it a bit.
When I bought them, I went into a locally owned party supply store and the ladies there LOVED my idea and after I fenagle the fallopian tube/balloon arrangement, I'll take them into the store and have helium put in. I didn't want to buy a tank for a dozen balloons.
Here's to controlled insanity!!!

Roberta, what a wonderful visual! LOL! I hope the whole thing gives you a sense of peace.
Let us know how the balloons turn out. How fun! Here I'm stuck with football balloons.

Best wishes for your upcoming surgeries Tamara and Roberta!! I'm also loving the visual--is there dog hair on the ute??!
Beth, I'm so glad you're feeling better already--wow, I'm actually beginning to look forward to this (deep breath!).

Hey There Sister!
Somehow I think we must be related. Same surgery, leaving ovaries and cervix if possible. Same dates for pre op and surgery. I get your sense of humor and DH and I have talked about how neat "Burning Man" sounds. You and I even have the same kitty on our signature!
Coincidence?

Work through the waiting...Paper Mache Ute?
Hi Sharon,
I don't know about you, but I really feel those dates coming. I have been getting progressively emotional over the last week. The paper mache uterus is done at my house. I added pink sparkly glitter with stars on it last night. My DH and I are writing things on bits of paper to put inside of it for "Burning Utertus". We have written things that are going away with the uterus, both positive and negative. I think this has really helped me let go of some baggage.
My DH and I went to "Burning Man in in '95. Back when there was only about 13,000 people. I hear it's really huge now.
My little kitty on my signature is in honor of our new little kitten, Rose. She's a dear.
Good luck with your trip to the Castle, warm fuzzies to you.

Work through the waiting...Paper Mache Ute?
Hey Roberta!
Way to go sister! Nekkid paper mache uterus making. I see a whole new fad beginning! I just put the pink glitter with stars on my paper mache uterus last night. It turned out kinda cool, so I'm going to take some pictures be for the burn. My DH and I are working on the bits of paper to put inside. I think we are going to do the burn tonight, just the two of us. We were going to do it at the uterus going away party, but all of a sudden, it got really personal. I didn't want to be all blubbery for the party.
You go girl!

Work through the waiting...Paper Mache Ute?
Hey Roberta
Well we burned the paper mache uterus last Wed. My DH cooked a great dinner, we opened a bottle of wine and tossed the paper uterus on in the wood stove and watched it go up in flames. It really was kind of comforting, being able to let it go. Then my DH and I talked about what this is going to mean to each of us. I feel better about the whole thing and think
I've come to terms with what is going to happen.
I hope things went well with your going away party and the burning of your ute.
Cheers,

Glad to hear yours went so well. My partner and I talked about what it all meant to us as well, very healing. We didn't have the luxury and ease of using a wood stove and mine didn't want to burn!
We used an old metal garbage can and I had put several wood matches into it, hoping that they would catch and it would start to burn. Nope. After a half box of the darn matches, I finally stomped on it, breaking it up enough and exposing enough paper, and then lit it. After that, it went up pretty quickly and I took pictures of the burning process. Once I get back home, I'll upload them and send them to friends.
The party itself was a bust...nobody came. I knew it would be rough for most friends being a "school night" so while I was disappointed, I understand.
Roberta
