1 month post abdominal hysterectomy: When can i have a bath ??

How long after abdominal hysterectomy can you bathe? I shower daily but long for a soak in a hot bubbly bath

My surgeon told me as long as the incision is closed and not leaking anything it's fine. He gave me the all clear at 2.5 weeks.

Hi! I had a vaginal hysterectomy 8/25, and I was told no sitting in a bath for at least two weeks. Im using a removable shower head w warm water in vaginal area for a little relief. Hope your feeling better soon!

I would ask your doctor. For an abdominal, you have incisions across your abdomen, no? Typically, then, it's about 6 weeks.

The last thing you'd want to do is introduce bacteria from the bath water. Call your doctor's office, and they'll let you know what they think.

I had a TAH, for me; it was six weeks, after the doctor cleared me. You do need to check with your own doctor.

I was also cleared at 6 weeks. I think it is more about bacteria in the vagina than the outside incisions.

I had a TAH and was told I could go swimming at 4 weeks. I suppose I could have had a bath then as well if I had a bathtub.

Only your own doctor can say when it's safe for you to soak in the bath. I had a TVH and wasn't cleared for baths until 8 weeks. The primary concern for most physicians is the vaginal cuff, and introducing bathwater to your healing incision (which is already in a warm, dark, moist place). If he gives you the ok, also ask if bubbles/salts are ok as well.

This should have been discussed at pre-op or post surgery. I received a pamphlet and a review with the nurse before I left the hospital. It was at least 6 weeks I had my appt with the surgeon at 6 weeks to confirm that I could..

No baths were allowed for 6 weeks on my restriction list and when I saw the surgeon for my 6 week follow up she took one look at my vaginal cuff and asked me to refrain for a few more weeks. It's always best to check things out with your own Dr. rather than go by what everyone says here. We all had our surgeries for different reasons.
