Day 10

I had a DaVanci Hyserectomy and Sacral colpopexy on March 14, 2012. A Urinary tract infection really set me back as I felt terrible. I am up and around now and feeling good. My incisions have healed well and staples came out yesterday. I feel bigger in the tummy area still than I did before surgery. Could I still have swelling or is this me now??

Re: Day 10

Hi there! I'm on Day 10, too. I had a total abdominal hysterectomy on March 13 and am feeling great. I have sutures, not staples. But to answer your question about your tummy, I can say, with much certainty, that this bigger tummy is not the new you. The swelling will eventually go down, and you should be back to your normal size after a while.

I say this because I had two myomectomy/laparotomies in the last 10 years, in addition to my hysterectomy. Same full abdominal incision for all three. For the first one, I had staples. The second one, I had sutures. And now I have sutures. In the first two cases, my swelling went down and I was back to normal stomach size. I'm confident I'll be back to normal for this final surgery.

Get your rest and good luck with the remainder of your recovery.

Re: Day 10

I also had DvH on 3-14 and my tummy is bigger than ever! I had no appetite first week post op and feel like I must have lost weight...but I look 6 months pregnant. Saw dr one week post op and he said it would get get better in a couple weeks. Here's hoping! Good luck with your recovery...I started driving yesterday and feel sore today. Might have overdone it! Feel good OX

Re: Day 10

I am glad to hear it is gonna go down some! I had a urinary tract infection the second day after I got out of the hospital. I felt like total crap for 3 days! I feel like I am finally getting on track from my procedures. Lost 7 pounds from everything but I feel pregnant at times!

Re: Day 10

I know that for my post-op directions, I'm not supposed to drive for at least two weeks after surgery. So surfchk, although we both had different procedures, don't push it.

I had to move my car on Thursday, from our street to our driveway. I could totally feel a little twinge in my lower abdomen. Just from that quick little action. I'm not going to push it. Neither should you.

Just take it easy!

Good luck
