Re: Did you get a second opinion?

Sort of -- the first three providers I saw for my ongoing symptoms said nothing was wrong with me and everything was normal. When I got to the fourth, he's the one who dx'ed me with endo and fibroids after an exploratory lap. I didn't get another opinion after that because I was tired of "shopping around" and was just so overjoyed that I found someone willing to look beyond the ultrasounds and MRI's and blood work to get to the bottom of my problem!

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

Even though I did not get a second opinion, because of the years of pain w/endo and my own research, I knew this was the right decision for me... I was told in the past this would most likely be the outcome and I was prepared.

I am so glad I finally made the decision to go through w/the surgery! It has improved my quality of life drastically!

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

I had already reached menopause and the effects after surgery on my system were "zero"...Never once did I experience any hot flashes, dryness or any other negative symptom...It's been three years and I'm pretty happy I did it...My family history of uterine cancer runs high and for me it was the right thing to do...

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

No, although I did ask my general physician what he thought about the gynecologist's recommendation.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

I did not get a second opinion i didnt even think about that due to my insurance was about to run out i was told 1 week before my tvh that it was the best option due to the pain and blood clots without bleeding and my gyn saved my son while i was pregnant with him i trust him and he did tell me i could have a clamp put in for the prolapsed uterus but it would not help the pain with sex and the blood clots at all

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

Yes, I got a second opinion. And a third opinion. The surgeon who did my lap recommended it if my pain wasn't relieved. My gyn and RE concurred. And just to be thorough, the surgeon who will actually do the procedure (clearly) thought it was the best course of action, too.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

Yes, I got a second opinion and a third. Not because I thought there was an alternative to surgery (even though I hoped), but because I needed to be comfortable with the surgeon. My gyn was upset with me for 'taking so long to move on this' but the oncologists told me that with the cancedr estimated at stage 1, grade 1, there was 'no hurry'. Surgery scheduled for the end of November.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

Never let a doctor pressure you to rush into surgery unless your situation is extremely life threatening. My doctor tried to rush me to have a full hysterectomy so I thought I must really need one. I went home and did some research, went back to her for a consultation, and after I told her I only wanted a supracervical, she agreed that would be just fine. She was rushing me into menopause and I didn't want that. "Back in the day, full hysterectomy was the cure all," quoting my second opinion doctor. You instantly go into menopause and have to start w/ hormone replacement therapy. 3 wks after my surgery, doing great, and sooooo glad I didn't let her make my decision for me!!
