Waiting for results of sonogram, any ideas?

O.K., so I just have to rant a little bit. I've had pain since the day after Christmas, pressure, frequent urination, hemorrhoids, constipation, pain in vagina, shooting pains in right side (only ovary left) and weird drainage that's tinged with something.

Had to wait longer than normal to get my sonograms because of insurance problems...should get my results on Friday, if the doctor has the report by then.

Have been trying to diagnose myself, which is so frustrating. Thinking fibroids back, even tho I'm 61 because I had them before and had a UAE, and maybe something else. I don't think it's cancer..wouldn't I have real bleeding?

I realize there's not much I can do about it, but the waiting is horrible.

Re: Waiting for results of sonogram, any ideas?

HI RL1,
I am so sorry you have to deal with all this - the waiting for insurance clearance, the test results, and of course, dealing with the pain. I needed to have further tests after my sonogram, so please mentally prepare yourself for that possibility. Actually, I wanted as many tests as possible, as well as as many doctors' opinions as possible, so that I had a better idea of what I might be dealing with.
I couldn't be patient either, so I know firsthand how that goes. But I really hope you can try to distract yourself a bit...Friday must feel like an eternity wIting for the doctor to call. I kept sane waiting by balancing my chores, such as cleaning, filing, etc. with doing things I enjoyed, such as online browsing, chatting with friends, reading books and magazines. I did anything I could think of to make the time go faster.

From what you've already endured, I know you are stronger than you may think, dear sister. Please know you are not alone...we are here to help as much as possible.

Re: Waiting for results of sonogram, any ideas?

Thanks so much, sometimes I just want to cry. I realize this is only the beginning, too. Have to pace myself for the long haul. I am trying to keep myself occupied and have positive thoughts. So many others on here suffering with this stuff, too.

I think it's the lack of control. I want to be able to do something about this for myself...or at least know more so that I can prepare myself. I don't want to be blind-sided by a doctor.

Again, thanks for your kind words.

Re: Waiting for results of sonogram, any ideas?

Yes, the waiting is horrible! Not to add to your worry, but not all ladies diagnosed with a gyn cancer experience actual bleeding. Some experience symptoms similar to yours, and some are caught through routine screening without having any real symptoms at all.

For now, please try not to worry so very much or over-google. After all, you want to be informed but not terrified, and you don't know anything for certain at this point. Whatever this turns out to be, you WILL be able to handle things, and we'll help however we can.

Re: Waiting for results of sonogram, any ideas?

Thanks, I appreciate your honesty. Had more drainage this morning and it's looking more and more like blood. Have doctor appt. on Monday (I thought it was on Friday, have been having trouble juggling things), and I want to go in with a frame of mind that is reasonable and not in la-la land even if it is painful.

Trying not to beat myself up....even though the pain started after Christmas, I've had drainage for quite a while. I really wanted to believe it was just the old fibroids degenerating.

My mother was in the generation that was given just estrogen for menopause, and I thought that was what caused her uterine and ultimately her breast cancer.

My sister took fertility treatments in her 40's (almost 30 years ago) and had ovarian cancer after that. I always hoped that those hormones that they both took had something to do with their cancers.

Irregardless, I guess if you have to have it, uterine is one of the ones that is easier to treat.

So again, thanks for the input. Looks like it's been a while since you had your surgery...love to see that!!!

Re: Waiting for results of sonogram, any ideas?

Hang in there, (((RL1))). Even if it does turn out to be cancer-related, most uterine cancers are slower growing and very treatable. Try to keep busy between now and your appointment, so your mind is occupied with something other than worry. (((HUGS)))

I have the report from the sonogram...anybody want to interpret it?

Well, I have my sonogram results in my little hands. At the bottom it says:

IMPRESSION: Probable small fibroid. Differential diagnosis would include an irregular area of endometrial thickening.

Does anyone know what this means?

Re: Waiting for results of sonogram, any ideas?

I had endometrial thickening on my last US and something that was suggestive of cystic hyperplasia, the latter turned out to be a polyp when my gyn went in with the hysteroscope. Give the area is listed as "irregular" a polyp or fibroid would be the most likely culprit.

Are you having a follow-up appointment with your gyn to discuss the results?

Re: Waiting for results of sonogram, any ideas?

Hi Rl1,

I know you must feel so out of sorts now...but just that diagnosis alone really doesn't lead to any one particular direction. Guessing leads to stressing! I tried figuring out my own tests results and it lead to even more havoc. I too was nervous and beyond curious...but no good came of trying to read my own results. there are just too many variables. Your doctor is the only one with the results in front of him/her to interpret what they mean - as far as needing any future treatment or test.

As you might need further tests to get a clearer picture and/or a biopsy of your condition - ASK a ton of questions at your upcoming appointment Monday.

Hang in there and try to stay distracted over the weekend. A positive outlook helps you combat stress!
Take care and keep us posted.
Hugs and strength...
