Hello ladies. My TAH is in less than 24 hours. Is there anything else you want to tell me before I go to the hospital? Any last minute advice? Thanks!

I want to wish you all the best for your surgery & a smooth recovery. Last minute advice...don't forget your tummy pillow & to bring some goodies for the nurses so they can pamper you! Remember to take it easy when you get home.

do not eat ice chips or drink through a straw. you will get horrible gas. i laughed when my nurse told me this, but after my tubal and hysteroscopy i had gas so bad i didn't think i would ever get rid of it. Then with my hysterectomy i didn't eat the ice or use a straw and i had no gas whatsoever. keep a pillow with you at all times for your tummy, remember not tp pick anything up. i felt so good the next day that i went to take my shower and i almost picked up my suitcase and the nurse just about had a heart attack. i realized quickly what i almost did, thank goodness, also don't push anything with your foot that you can't lift, it will do the same damage as lifting. no sex, for awhile, follow this striclty or you will cause more problems in the long run. let's see... take care of yourself, let others wait on you and pamper you and enjoy it. get lots of rest and listen to your body. good luck.

I'm one week postop today, and my best advice is to be the perfect patient. Do what your doctor tells you to do, don't think you are superwoman, and be very patient with yourself and your healing. I feel stronger everyday because I am giving my body what it needs: time and rest. They are the two best gifts you can give yourself right now. Much good luck to you - i hope you do as well as I have been doing. I feel blessed and I hope you will,too.

Somehow convince yourself that YES you did just have major abdominal surgery and you're allowed to take it very very easy for 6 weeks minimum! Tatoo the checkpoints on your arm if necessary!!
