Pre-op testing and admitting
Went to my pre-op today!
Yeah, I know, real exciting huh?
So they went over everytning with me and gave me this soap stuff I'm supposed to wash my body with the night before and morning of surgery. Its called Hibiclens. Anyone have to do that? I guess its to reduce the bacteria on the skin so theres less chance of infection. Didn't have to do that with my other surgey 4 years ago.
Also I asked about the visitor restrictions on minors and they said they have lifted that restriction. I mean, thats at the hospital I'm going to, but I know there were a few ladies here wondering if their kids would be able to visit them while in hospital. I forgot which thread it was in but someone had mentioned the swine flu restrictions and I had never even thought of that. So at least here they have done away with them for now.
And I know there were some others wondering about their wedding ring and on my pamphlet they gave me it says that wedding bands are allowed but have to be taped. I don't have a wedding ring, but I do have a gold band that has been stuck on my middle finger for 10yrs. They said that was fine. So before you go lubing up your finger to get off that stuck wedding ring ask about it at pre-op first. You might save yourself a little trouble.
So now all thats left to do is go talk to my dr tomorrow and pick up my rx for the bowel prep. And wait, lol. I just can't wait until all this is over. The stress and waiting is horrible! And on top of that I'm PMS'ing now. PMS, anxiety, neverousness, stress all at the same time! Ugh! PMS is always the week before AF. Hopefully I won't see her before the op though! I'm scheduled 1 day before AF is supposed to show. I think I've already mentioned that a few times on here, sorry. I seem like I repeat a lot of stuff on here but theres always new people coming in, lol.
This week is supposed to be warm and gorgeous and I intend to make the best of it! I'm taking the kids to the zoo on sat and somewhere nice on Easter and getting all my last minute preps done after that!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEK! I can't believe its only a week away now!
Well, I hope all you other princesses in training have a wonderful day today and try not to stress too much!
Jess

I was told to either wash with the soap they gave you or Dial. Basically, they said leave the soap on about 2 min. on the abdomen. I was told it provided an extra barrier to infections.

I had to use the soap too. Guess it cuts down on post op infections. No real big deal. Waiting is always tough but good idea to do things to stay busy.

Re: Pre-op testing and admitting
I got the special soap too...have to use it for three days prior to surgery and sleep on clean sheets the night before the surgery.
Bowel prep including clear fluids the day before using something called Pico-Salax (Canada only I think). It is supposed be a lot better than the older bowel prep stuff. Hope so! I have bought white grape juice, white cranberry juice, beef and chicken broth, Gatorade and jello for that day. YUMMMMMM!
I figured out that my wedding ring actually does come off quite easily so will remove it and give it to DH to give back to me post-op.
Have told family that I don't want to see anyone except DH and my "kids" (grown-up) on the day of my surgery. Visitors can come the next day if they feel like it.
I will be moving some stuff up to my bedroom on the weekend (mini fridge, a recliner, an extra table to put "stuff" on, a bright bedside light) as I will have to stay upstairs for a few days.
Bought another cute top to wear with my PJ bottoms and a pretty knit sundress in case the weather stays warm.
Everything else is pretty well ready.
Looking forward to a nice Easter weekend! Already eating probiotic yogurt and lots of fiber - hope that will help things start moving after the surgery!!
Everything else is pretty well ready.
Good luck to my Apr. 6 sisters --- and all the other princesses-in-waiting. It is starting to seem VERY real!

You may want to take the ring off anyway, if at all possible. My ring fits fine, but with all the IV fluids they gave me, I was very swollen. My fingers looked like hot dogs.
