When can we drive?

Hey gals,
When is the average time we are released for driving? I called in to the Doctors office but have yet to receive a reply. I am about 4 weeks out. Just wondering if and when the rest you started driving?
Thanks, Christina

When can we drive?

I went to my doc at 1 and half weeks. Got the ok then. With all of the other stuff you've had done, I'd try to call the doc again before you drive.

When can we drive?

Some do it at a couple of weeks. I waited 6-7 weeks or so. The possiblity of someone hitting me in the car in a fender bender made me wait to heal first. Turning quickly in case something happens in the car etc. is something you have to think about too. I am about 11 weeks post op now. I still use a pillow under my seatbelt. Healing inside takes a long time.

When can we drive?

believe it or not -- driving takes alot out of you.

try something -- and it will give you an idea of how many muscles you use.

sit in a chair -- put your feet out like they are pushing the gas pedal --you know just point your toe to hit the gas a bit harder -- hol dyou hands like you have a steering wheel in your hand--

turn pretend corners -- speed up and slow down by lifting and dropping your foot -- hit the brake pedal harda few times-- now if you have a stick shift -- add that itto the mixture.

feel all those muscles -- that is what is still healing --

but aside from that -- my doctor said when i was off pain meds and not driving under the influence of meds.

When can we drive?

My dr said to sit in the car on the drive and see how it felt, so basically as Lisa says here. I found it uncomfortable until about 6 weeks but luckily I didn't need to drive.

When can we drive?

I had a TAH/BSO, and my doctor told me that between two and three weeks is usually enough healing time before getting behind the wheel again. He told me that I should do a test run first before making any longer trips. He said I should make sure that braking would not cause pain when I pushed HARD on the pedal. When I informed the doctor that I drive a manual transmission, he said I should give myself another week. Lots of leg action with a clutch! I didn't have any problems when I drove again, but I made sure I didn't drive any marathon distances! Good luck with your driving!!

When can we drive?

I think I was probably bad compared to you all. I had my surgery on Tuesday (July 29) and was driving on Saturday. I've driven every day since then. I've been so bored since the Sunday after my surgery that I can hardly stand it. I try to find some where to go each day (even if only to take DH to work). This has helped me get up and about. I know I've been overdoing, but I'm really going nuts already.

When can we drive?

I started to drive after my second week. You have to be careful about driving to soon or you may pay for it later. I had lots of things to do at home and plenty of people visiting me so I was in no hurry.

When can we drive?

I was told by my Dr that if I didn't have pain or discomfort while riding in a car I could drive but until then no driving.

Sorry if I sound like a broken record, but this question has come up in other posts and I was just putting in my
