Adenomyosis and Novasure? Not so sure! (2011)

I had my 2nd opinion today for suspected adenomyosis. My original surgeon wanted me to lose 10kg before he will do hysterectomy. Easier said then done. So I went and saw my OB/GYN today hoping he would book me in for a hysterectomy. He is wanting to do novasure first. It was my understanding that with ablation it burns the lining of the uterus, yet adenomyosis is INSIDE the muscle of the uterus, so if this is the case, how can ablation/novasure help? Has anyone had success with novasure and adenomyosis? Thanks in advance.

Re: Adenomyosis and Novasure? Not so sure!

I had the same questions but I still scheduled the surgery because it was minor rather then the major surgery of a hysterectomy. I went in and after all was said and done they couldn't do it. The dr said my uterus was too boggy and high and the tool used wouldn't reach it. Therefore I am back to square one and have my hysterectomy scheduled for next week. At first I was upset but since I had lap. surgery with it we were able to see what is going on inside so now there will be no surprises with the hysterectomy.

A lot of people have good results with Novasure and others do not. I hope you can make a decision that you are happy with.

Thanks for your reply. I think I am going to go ahead with Novasure. Just want this all behind be already, so hoping that it does work and doesn't set me back.

I hope the Novasure is successful for you! I am a big supporter of trying the least invasive options first as they tend to have less risks and side effects!

Keep us posted!

Re: Adenomyosis and Novasure? Not so sure!

I had the novasure 3 yrs ago.. I am now scheduled to have the hysterectomy on the 15th. The novasure will not help for the adenomyosis, you will still have the pain.

Re: Adenomyosis and Novasure? Not so sure!

I had Novasure 5 years ago and am now scheduled for a hysterectomy as most of my symptoms have come back. Most doctors will tell you that ablation is not effective treatment of adenomyosis. Best of luck

Re: Adenomyosis and Novasure? Not so sure!

I had the Novasure, D&C,abalation last June. My bleeding has almost stopped, but the cramping on both sides, and lower back keep me out of work 2 -3 days a month. It is excruiating, I started bloating after the surgery and can't keep the bloating down. I have change in bowels, upset stomach, etc. It is up to the individual what they can handle afterwards. I am thinking about a lap. hysterectomy. I don't want to take hormone medicine afterwards.

Re: Adenomyosis and Novasure? Not so sure!

Novasure didn't work for me either. I thought I had adenomyosis, but I also had a largish fibroid and my doc thought he could remove it and the ablation would take care of my heavy, steady bleeding. He asked me what bothered me more the heavy bleeding or the pain and I couldn't decide. I should have said the pain because I can't take a lot of pain meds.
My cramps afterwards were constant and very sharp and I continued to bleed for 2 months afterward. We scheduled hysterectomy 9 weeks after the ablation. I'm 4 weeks post op and just now starting to feel better. I wanted to have the hyster 3 months ago, but I have to say it is a much bigger recovery and pain than I imagined.
My pathology did reveal adenomyosis after all. Hopefully I will be a new gal soon! Good luck with your decision and ask tons of questions. Be honest with your doc about your pain threshold.
Peace out!

Re: Adenomyosis and Novasure? Not so sure!

Thanks for your replies. This is exactly what I was afraid of. Being left in pain. I'm Lucky with bleeding. Its not that bad but the pain is. Unbarable now . I am booked in for novasure on the 25th March.
