Losing weight after hysterectomy

I am 4 days out and I have some concerns. I am a pretty average sized person. I am 5'9 and 160. I have heard that when you have a hysterectomy your stomach flattens out a little bit and you lose about 10 lbs? Is that true? I don't mind shedding a few pounds.

Re: Losing weight post op

I am retaining, unfortunately. My kidneys don't process sodium anyway, so, I am retaining about a gallon and 1/2 of fluid right now. Hope I lose weight though, lol.

Re: Losing weight post op

Surgery is not a magic weight loss, most of us lose weight the first few weeks post op due to lack of appetite, etc...
Then it is very common to put back the weight you lost when you can resume normal eating.
As I always mention, weight mAnagement is 80% nutrition and 20% exercise.
Of course this is the common path, some sisters have experienced weight gain, due to either hormonal imbalance or tyroid issues.
And some others have reported mid term weight loss post surgery due to changing their lifestyle and eating better...
I'm 5'10 and was 130 pre op, went down to 123 (yikes) but now at 8 months post op, I'm back at 130...

Re: Losing weight post op

I don't want to use this as a weight loss situation. Its unfortunate that this has to happen but I'm glad it is. I'm tired of being in pain every day. The weight loss is just an added bonus. Lol.

Re: Losing weight post op

I lost 8 lbs but that is because the tumor weighed 6 lbs. the other was due to not eating. At this time I have gained those 8 lbs back. I am trying to keep my eating down but I am always hungry!! Must be memo kicking in now.

Re: Losing weight post op

I had a couple pounds of tumor riddled uterus taken out and lost about 10 pounds overall. I definitely have more energy now and have been doing more, they were dragging me down before, for sure.

Re: Losing weight post op

I hope you have read about "swelly belly" that accompanies post surgery recovery so you are not surprised by it.

I didn't have my surgery to lose weight -- but to get rid of the constant PAIN.

Please concentrate on resting, healing, and pampering yourself right after surgery (4 to 8 weeks or more) and then hopefully you'll be ready for exercises.

best wishes.

Re: Losing weight post op

I think it depends on the person. I have not lost any weight yet and it has been almost 6 weeks!

Re: Losing weight post op

I initially gained a few lbs but now I am down 8 lbs. I'm 11 days post op. I'm urinating large amounts frequently so I think it's a lot of water retention being released.
