re: being scared

Don't be scared. My surgery is on the 14th, (wish it was sooner, in ALOT of pain!), & I can't wait! I know that there will still be pain for afew months while I heal, but after that! Yes! A whole new begining for me & my life! I will finally feel better, no more pain in all of the area's there is to have pain! I can start to work out again! Take care of my kids better! Everything! This sight has really helped me feel more secure about the whole thing too, the women on here are so thoughtful, I am so thankful that I fell upon this sight. Anyways, don't fret, all will be great! I will be thinking about you, & feel free to talk to me if you like,

I'm scared

All feelings are normal - even being scared and anxious - but think of it this way: it is a huge waste of energy! Find something constructive or fun to do, whether it is cleaning, play with pets, going to the movies, etc. I went and had a mini spa day a few days before my surgery - pedicure, facial and 30-minute neck/back massage. Sure did the trick!

I am more than 5 months post-op and I can barely believe I ever had surgery - I feel so normal. I was walking down the lane next to my house (slowly and with my sister next to me) at 4 days post-op. I drove at 2 and 1/2 weeks and started doing all my own grocery shopping and errands shortly thereafter. I went back to work at 6 weeks with no ill effects. At 4 months (in January) I was lifting a 50-lb bag of rock salt and realized what I was doing and smiled.

Despite being a 47-year-old, 235 lb blob, I had smooth sailing and a great recovery. The first week or so is a little challenging, but not horrible. It gets better and better, and quickly.

So feel better! Many of us get through this with relative ease, given the circumstances. Maybe you will, too.

Good luck!

I'm scared

Hi!
I was very scared too and I couldn't focus on anything. I just wanted you to know that my experience was: the waiting was worse than the surgery. I had an SAH on 2/14. I am at the 3 week post-op point today and life is good. I had never had surgery before and was very nervous and scared, but now I realize that the fear is worse than actually doing it. Just take it a day at a time, or an hour at a time. Don't let the fear take over!
Bless you,
Krisples

I'm scared

I hope you find peace with this. Just remember what brought you to this point and have positive thoughts of how much better you'll be after. I wish you the best. I know for all I was okay about my surgery, in the days leading up to it of course I was scared and anxious about it and had some very stressful and teary days at work and home but those closest to me knew and were so helpful.

I'm scared

I know exactly what you are talking about. My surgery is next week (15th), and I'm filled with mixed emotions. In the end, it'll be worth it, but the unknown makes every scared. I'm not so much worried about the pain, mainly how my body is going to respond being put into surgical menopause at an early age of 26. I'm very lucky and being able to the do the LSH surgery, so pain and recovery time should be minimum (1-2 weeks). Nonetheless, menopause is a word I didn't think I'd have to deal with for a long while. I have problems with endo & cysts, so those ovaries have to come out.

You're all in my thoughts and prayers and I hope you have a smooth recovery and not as bad as you think.

I'm scared

Dear Tallwaters,

I know how you feel. With me it's all "fear of the unknown". The whole surgical menopause thing with no HRT has me freaked too.

You're a bit sooner than I am, but I'm in on the 15th for LAVH/BSO. I will most definitely keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
