Should I have ovaries removed?

Sue Renee,
I had a tvh 5/14 - kept ovaries.

But I'm posting because I, too have the pain in the left side under the ribs. Sometimes it worries me since it's on the left side - I worry about it being heart-related. But no chest pain. I talked to my dr - he said it was probably a muscle. I've had it off and on for years, but I've never considered it to be related to any ovarian problems.

Good luck with your surgery.

Should I have ovaries removed?

I have right sided pain, and the doctor says that my uterus is in Stage One prolapse, and is tugging on the ovary. He feels that once the uterus is removed, the pain SHOULD clear up - but he can't say for sure. I'm still deciding whether or not to have a hyst., so we'll see what happens.

I have alot of pain in my left side near the back and under ribs especially near a period. I asked my Dr. and after several ultrasounds and other scans does not know the cause. I asked her to look at the ovaries during the surgery which she is performing abdominally and she refused to make the decision. She said that even if the "look" ok that does not tell her anything except that they look ok. She said that it has happened before that an ovary that looks good can still turn out to be pre or cancerous once the pathology reports come back. I guess I am seriously considering letting her take them. She also said that the left sided pain may or may not be ovarian in nature. Could be muscle. What to do??????????????

Any insight? I guess we have to be Drs to make wise choices. Im just a teacher.
Dear Sue Rene,

If your doc can't offer an opinion based on your pre-op exams or even during an actual surgery, then what is the point of being her patient? What other parts should be removed *just in case*?

You owe it to yourself to get another medical opinion. This is major surgery... no turning back, and ultimately only YOU have to live with your pre-op symptoms AND your post-op results (good or bad).

Get smart about your symptoms and your options, & make the best choice for YOU.

Just sign me,
Keeping all my parts that *look ok*
Sending cyberhugs

Should I have ovaries removed?

Jumping on the bandwagon here...If she can't tell if your ovaries are ok by examing them during surgery, after so many scans, what sort of doctor is she? PLEASE get another opinion. You need to find a medical professional who can guide you based on empirical data, not one that puts crucial decisions in YOUR hands without sharing in that responsibility!!!!

Trust is critical between a doctor and patient. I would not put my trust in someone who can't take responsibility for making a diagnosis, even during surgery!!!!

Please let us know what happens.

update on me.

Had my pre-op today and we discussed the ovary issue, Dr said she thinks with my history of left sided pain and my last ultrasound that it will probably be a good idea to remove ovaries also. Dr is going to start me on the patch right after surgery and then see about pills later.
