A stitch is poking through at 9 weeks post-op...

I posted yesterday about having some new pain yesterday and feeling something poke out right above my incision. I had been relatively pain-free for a few weeks, so the sharp pain yesterday certainly got my attention. My dh felt it and said it almost felt like a stitch or something. Of course, I told him that would be ridiculous, because at 9 weeks post-op, they HAD to be dissolved.

Can I just say that I hate it when he is right?! That's exactly what it is. The doc said I strained picking something (or someone, most likely, as my 1 year has been really sick and I've been holding her a lot) and that it popped. It's apparently the knotted area of the stitches. So, she said it will either dissolve, or that it could actually poke out through my skin. I've lost about 10 pounds since surgery and am pretty scrawny right now, so she thinks that is why I can feel it sticking out so much. If it does poke through, I am supposed to go back in and have it taken out.

Anyone else have this happen? Just how long does it take for the stitches to dissolve?

Thanks!

Hated the dissolvable stitches...let's say my body did! My body took FOREVER to dissolve them. My vaginal cuff stitches my Dr. finally removed at 7 1/2 weeks post op...can you say owie! My one tummy incision did get a stitch to poke through so when I went in for one of my post op visits my Dr.'s said no problem just cut it with some nail clippers close to the skin, and that is what I did and then added some neosporin and it resolved it self after awhile. Take care.

I also have a stitch sticking out (5 and half weeks post op)of the bottom of my vertical incison. It got a little infected a couple of weeks ago and my fam doc told me to put polysporin on it. It still hasn't dissolved and I am putting polysporin on it once a day. My gyno told me yesterday at my 6 week post op appointment to just leave it alone and it will eventually dissolve! He said some take a long time. I will feel much better healed when it is gone! Otherwise I'm feeling pretty good though .....almost back to my normal energy level!
