I am just not sure what's happening now but I've tried to go off/on since yesterday and NADA...
This is exactly what happened to me! I was doing fine, had bm at the hospital and have been fine until Friday. I began taking Premarin until my ovaries kick back in for horrible hot flashes on Friday and thought that might have been the cause and did not take it last night but I am still stuck (no pun intended). Since Friday I have tried stool softners, grape juice and even took a laxative last night but nada! Have 2 week check up today so I am going to ask dr. about it. I have been eating well and just do not understand what happened. I am going to have DS take me to pick up some flax seed and oatmeal when we leave the dr.

Thanks so much for this post. Anytime I have a problem, I know there will something on this site to help me!

Love yall, and the best IS yet to come!

advice on what to eat for easier passing....

Hi Hystergo!

I can SO sympathize with you! I have had the worst nightmare with my bowels following my TAHBSO 1/31/08. Intially, I developed an illeus right after surgery (your bowels become totally paralyzed) so I remained in the hospital for a week-that is when I finally passed gas, a BM took 4 more days, I was in agony. I was so gassy, bloated even with not eating. Well, my bowels continued to be an issue for a month-I lost 40 pounds. I could barely eat, and the only way to move my bowels was with MOM and glycerine suppositories. I was in agony, awful pain and couldn't take any pain meds, the Drs. thought that was the problem. Finally, last week I started to improve and I have been doing good now. Here's what really helped me: I saw Dr. Oz on Oprah talking about the importance of veggies, fruits and fiber keeping the bowels functioning well. I eat Activa yogurt w/ All Bran mixed in, a piece of fruit, and at least one healthy size salad a day and fish/or poultry with more veggies! Within 2 days I was going really well without MOM. I do still take a Colace stool softner daily and my GI Dr. suggested a natural laxative "Miralax" which I just stopped a day ago. I swear it is all about the veggies, fruits and fiber!!! I hope you improve soon my dear.

advice on what to eat for easier passing....

this was a first for me. 48 hours post op, I hadn't gone so I called my mother in law (she's a nurse and it was a Sunday) and she told me to get senekot pills. took a couple of those early afternoon. by late evening, nothing had happened and I wanted it out, so I used the second enema that came in the package for pre-op. I used the enema and it worked! and the senekot worked today so I'm back into the swing of things ... hope it keeps up. and yes, I'm eating fruits and grains.

Just got back from 2 week check up and had DS take me to Whole Foods before coming home. I think I got enough flax products to fix my problem! I even got flax seed waffles! I am excited because I also bought a lot more fruit, veggies and soy products (lactose intolarant) and I feel maybe this was a push to get me into more healthy eating habits. Will keep you all posted!

Oh yeah, dr. said I was healing fine and that this too would pass!

I haven't read through all the replies, so forgive me if this has been suggested! I have good luck with ground flax seed (you can add it to anything, your cereal, oatmeal, yogurt), also my aunt (who is in her 70s and has ALWAYS had problems with constipation) swears by Activia! She has one once a day and has been regular for the first time in her life, she's thrilled. I also like Plum Smart, gives me gas but helps keeps things moving. Also, drink lots of water! Vitamin C can help too (1000 mg a couple of times a day). I took a stool softner for the first 2 weeks, but stopped once I was off the pain meds.

Hope you find some relief! It's not fun to not be able to go.

I never had any problem as long as I had a cup of fiber one cereal every day. I also took healthy trinity a probiotic. I did not have gas pains or any problems having a bm. I hope this helps you too.
