Which estrogen best for bladder issues?

Hi,
I have posted before that I have suffered with bladder and urethra issues since a UTI in late October. I am seeing a urologist and he says it is atrophy in the urethra. Anyway, I was on Premarin 0.625 and using Premarin cream nightly on the urethra area and three times a week vaginally. My vagina is great-husband says it is softer than it has been in years (sorry for the graphic). Well, the oral Premarin started making me nauseous and dizzy and I was having tics (little jerky movements from time to time) I thought my Gyn would just lower my dose because believe it or not, I felt better on that than anything else. Well, he changed me to generic Estridiol .5 once a day. I did that for a week and felt so low that I knew it wasn't enough, so on my own I now take it twice a day It still wears off, but I don't want to increase it until I see him in March. My urologist said I need estrogen to heal those tissues in my bladder and urethra. He said it could take 2-4 months. Well, it has been two months now. I guess it is a little better, however, I am worried that the oral estrdiol is not good for it. Do any of you know the best estrogen to take for bladder isssues? I wasn't sure if Premarin was an estradiol or not. Is estradiol good for bladder issues. I want to have days without pain. It is better today and I don't think it is IC I would be worse by now surely! My pain is minimal to moderate. I do take pain meds when it gets where I can't function as well, but I keep going.
sorry this is so long. I just don't want to be taking steps backwards in this process by taking the wrong oral estrogen. Also, if estradiol is good for bladder issues should I ask my urologist for estradiol vaginal cream instead of the premarin?
Thanks for any advice!

Which estrogen best for bladder issues?

domwa,

It sounds like a good idea to ask for the vaginal form of estradiol instead of oral if what you are trying to do is strengthen the perineal and vaginal areas. It is quite different to take something orally than to use it superficially. I use premarin cream myself and haven't ever tried any other kind. I know that some can be compounded but you'd have to find a compounding pharmacy to do that.

I have never heard of any particular type that is better for the bladder. I think just whatever kind you are personally able to tolerate is most likely to be the best for you.

Hope you find what you need ASAP.....

Which estrogen best for bladder issues?

Yes, I would agree. Vaginal oestrogen is supposed to be the better form for bladder issues. As to best type of oestrogen, I don't know anything about Premarin, but I have recently tried an estriol cream. I found that seemed to make the bladder more sensitive and irritable.I am not sure whether it is something in the base or the estriol itself. I had strange symptoms of early pregnancy, including frequent trips to the loo, and as estriol is the pregnancy hormone, wondered if that was the cause...
So after a little break, I am about to try Vagifem, which is estradiol base and no cream chemicals.
