TAH: I have a question about pain meds after surgery : )

One of my co-workers was telling me last night that when she had her hyster, that she had an epidural for her pain medicine to go through and keep her comfy (she had a TAH as well). I have never heard of this. Has anyone here ever have this? And if so, is it something that they automatically do? After my C-Section about 15 months ago I had a morphine PCA afterwards. I am just curious about this. Thanks ladies!!

Some ladies have an epidural or a spinal block and some have general anesthesia. If you have an epidural or spinal block, they sometimes keep it in for pain control. I had general anesthesia and they gave me a PCA once I was in my room. I am sorry that I don't remember the recovery room at all so I have no idea what they gave me there for pain control.
