Surgery Thurs. & Husband's Job
My hyst is Thursday (TAH). I have a pre-cert for 2 days in castle. We have 2 daughters ages 4 & 10. My Dh has gotten Thurs & Fri off from work. He asked to have the weekend as well so He can bring me home & take care of the girls. As of right now, the answer is NO. I am scared about thinking of having them by myself for at least a week...They'll be in school & daycare next week. They tend to do fine together for the most part, but everyone knows how siblings can be. I have family here, I just feel that I shouldn't have to ask them to be built-in babysitters when anyone with any decency would understand the situation & allow a man time off to take care of his family.
I had 2 c-sections & functioned well afterward. But I keep hearing how different this is. I keep wandering how I'll be able to go home after 2 days when I went home on the 4th day with the c-sec both times. I feel like I will really need him this weekend, for me & the girls.
He's still trying (we've known about the date for 3 weeks). He actually just found out last week that he had Thurs. & Fri.
I know that my family will help & all will be okay. I just burns my butt............Sorry.

Surgery Thurs. & Husband's Job
Yes, his boss should give him time off but if you can't do anything about that. Maybe, you should ask your family for help. Unless your girls are very independent, you won't be able to take care of them at all. The first week post-op, you won't be able to do more than warm up a bowl of soup and lay on the couch.
If you want your girls waiting on you and taking care of themselves, then go for it. However, I think you and the girls would have more enjoyment out of someone else taking them for a couple of days.
Take care of yourself and good luck
Tam

While your husband's boss should give him the appropriate time off, might it be better to ask your family for help? It sounds like your DH may be between a rock and a hard spot. Perhaps your relatives would really like to help in some way but aren't really sure how? Maybe a sleepover at their house to give you the peace and quiet you need and deserve. Giving your DH the time to do his job and take quiet care of his wife after work might be less stressful right not.
Whatever it takes to help you through this - fight the fight with his employer later when there is less emotion involved. Don't put your husband in the middle if possible - most are more fragile than we think!

Surgery Thurs. & Husband's Job
Bring your family in to help. I don't think you may realize how much help you may need. This is major surgery. I had my a family member come from out of state to stay for a week and my husband was also home from work for three weeks. Basically it was extra help with the kids in case he couldn't visit me in the hospital. I stayed for three days in the hospital for a TVH.
Having a hysterectomy is more than having a baby. With a TAH, SAH, or TVH there is much more work in the abdomen than delivering a baby and placenta. Keep in mind that the baby is supposed to come out. With a hysterectomy, you are losing a major organ. There can be nearly 100 or more stitches inside you that will seal off blood vessels and reattach uterine ligaments to other parts of you (among other things), creating a whole new internal structure to support your vagina, etc. This is a MAJOR cutting-and-stitching job inside you. Some women that have had vaginal hysterectomies can also have over 100 internal stitches.
This surgery also somehow makes us tire easily so you may only feel like doing half of what you normally do. I was not allowed to lift anything for six weeks. You only have one chance to heal right. To many people have gone out and overdid and ended up with complications or a set back in their recovery.
I was also told to limit sitting to no more than 30 min at a time in early recovery. To much sitting can put to much pressure on the newly attached ligaments and can lead to groin pain. Sitting is an activity! You may not think that something like sitting can cause trouble but if you overdo, it hits you like a ton of bricks. I spend a lot of time in bed or reclining the first couple weeks and only got up for showering, eating, digesting food, checking email (had to set a timer for 10 min) and maybe had the couch opened so I could read to the kids at bedtime without sitting to much.
Pamper yourself. s It helps if you stay in your PJ's too. See this link. https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/hsarticle.php?id=97109
