Does size matter?

Hi
I am booked for a hyst in 6 weeks and thanks to this website I am feeling comfortable with the decision, my question is actually for my mom who is going to have one next week vaginally. I am very concerned about her recovery as she is very big and also inactive. She has already gone through menopause but has started to bleed again due to fibroids and they cannot give her any hormones due to previous health problems. I know that her doctor wouldn't do it if it were not safe but we just worry about how she will recover. Has anyone else experianced this?

Does size matter?

Nettab, I am a woman of size and I had a TVH/BSO. Both my surgery and my recovery were uncomplicated.

Many other women of size have posted that their hysterectomies (both vaginal and abdominal) were uncomplicated, too. This doesn't guarantee that your mother's surgery and recovery will go well, but I hope it will reassure you somewhat.

Like every other hysterectomy patient, your mother should follow her doctor's instructions carefully, expect her recovery to take six to eight weeks, rest, walk, and drink plenty of water.

Best wishes to both of you.

Does size matter?

I had mine a week ago (TVH) and the only thing the dr said was that it he had to go to LVH, he might have some difficulties due to the length of the instruments and my "depth", so there was a chance of winding up with a TAH. All went well, was TVH - no problems. I was concerned before, too, but everything was fine!

Hugs to both of you -good luck
