Me Too Moment

Hello all you strong women! I'm so glad I found this site! I just had an appt w/ a specialist gyne who is supposed to be the "best of the best" in my area. He was right on the same page as me which was very refreshing.

I had ablation in 2005 and again in 2006. I had my tubes tied in 2005 as well. At the time I had the 2nd ablation I was also found to have an intestinal intusseception which was removed. I was fine for a few months, but then BAM the pain came back w/ a vengence. I kept going to my gyne and he tried to get me to take the pill, but I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and am one too many meds to really consider the pill. I told him I don't think this is from my ovaries and he sent me to the specialist b/c I don't think he knew what else to do.

Today I saw the doctor and was found to have a huge amount of fluid in my uterus, according to the nurse the fluid is the size of a 2 month gestational pregnancy!! We've decided to do the TLH of uterus and cervix leaving the ovaries since I am only 29 years old. I hope it turns out well and I'm really looking forward to not suffering w/ this anymore. I've thrilled to see I'm not alone b/c I was beginning to think this was just something I had to live with! Thanks for being so open and sharing your stories! I'll let you know how it all turns out and good luck to ALL of you!

It sounds like you are quite content w/ having a TLH. I too have fluid in my uterus (hematometria) and have seen three dr.'s over the last month w/ three different opinions on what to do. For me there were other options than a hysterctomy. At least other things to try first. Just thought I would mention it if you were curious.

SBF1978,

I also have RA, and one of the reasons why I'm going through with my hysterectomy. This is very interesting to me, to see so many people with the same stuff.

So, beachloversis, what other options were you given?

Dog Tired

Hey! Yeah, I guess you could say I'm fine w/ having the surgery. I'm a medical assistant and I see so many people suffer and suffer b/c they don't want to have surgery. For me it's a waste of time and money to seek out a bunch of opinions b/c I'm not having anymore kids and w/ my history they are just two organs that serve no purpose other than to be a breeding ground for cancer. I hope that you decide what's right for YOU because everyone knows that opinions are like *insert explitive here* everybody's got one!! Best of Luck!

What type of ablation did you all have?

Fluid in uterus

I had the novasure ablation. One of my recent dr.s opinions did say I was the typical failure of ablation.

As for the question of what my options were. Of course, a hyst was the first thing mentioned. I did try BC pills w/ no relief. My last dr. was known as the "hormone guru" and he suggested oral progesterone. I am taking prometrium 100mg every day. I can't tell you if it has worked yet. It has only been a couple weeks. I will say, I feel good now. I haven't had any pain yet. The thought is if it works, I can stay on until menopause, and then there will be no need. I am 40, so maybe that won't be too far away.

Fluid in uterus

I decided to try D/C first. I had fluid building up in my uterus but a pocket had formed (partly due to scar tissue) and my cervix wasn't opening enough to allow the fluid to drain. There was some pretty old stuff in there.

I went with a new Dr. for the D/C. The Dr. who I had seen for 30 years and did my ablation retired a couple years ago. I didn't feel like the Dr. I had chosen to replace him was communicating well and I basically felt like cattle being herded to slaughter. I went to a new Dr. referred to me by a co-worker for a second opinion.

The second opinion is now my new Dr. and I really like her. She moved from a large practice to her own because she didn't feel her patients were getting the care they deserved. She explained everything well. She tried to open my cervix in the office but I couldn't stand the pain (even on pain pills because I went in earlier than my "new patient" appt because the severe pain had struck). She sent a lab to check for infection and cancer cells. She personally called with the results. She visited with me both before and after my surgery and her office called the following day to check on me. She SUGGESTED a more conservative approach rather than saying "We can try to fix it or take it out. Here's a pamphlet to explain the procedure. Let us know what you decide." as I walked away in tears. Even though I'm through having children I didn't want a hysterectomy. It's just a personal thing.

My new Dr. told me that most of the time this will work. If it doesn't then "We'll discuss further options but let's be optimistic.". I'm good with that.

This was my decision and isn't right for everyone. I'm hoping for the best but if doesn't work out I'll move on from there and I'll chalk this experience up to at least finding a Dr. that I really like.

Sorry I've been MIA

Hello all again! Well, the date is set for March 10th 2008! I'm stoked to say the least and looking forward to an end to things. I decided to go with my regular gyne who said that a LAVH would be a better way to go so that's the new plan. I hope you all keep your fingers crossed for me!

Re: Fluid in uterus

I also noticed this is an old thread and had a uterine ablation back in 2009. The last few months, I have been bleeding approx. 25 days a month and decided to go to my gyn.

After having an ultrasound yesterday, she saw that there was fluid in my uterus. I don't have the pain associated with this as described in above posts, but I do feel bloated all the time.

During the appointment, my dr. possibly giving me a script for progesterone. I decided that this seems like a band aide fix and decided to go with a vaginal hysterectomy. she also mentioned that I will find out my surgery date later on this week or early next week after contacting the insurance company.

woo hoo... getting the date and knowing all this will end...

OMG I'm having the same problems. My thoughts are the ablation was not a good idea and it wasted money paid. I had my ablation done last year. Since last Sunday all of a sudden I was so fatigue and could not figure out why. I've been having spot bleeding for the last 3 months. I thought that since I'm 43 must be the change coming up. But OMG the pain on my right side was so bad I almost fainted at work and my husband had to pick me up because I got so dizzy and was unable to drive. Went straight to ER. CT TEST with contrast and ultrasound. Ovaries look great. Uterine fluid and endometrial stripe 6mm found. Saw my gyno on Friday need to schedule hysterectomy ASAP.
