HELP!! New and I'm freaking out!!!

I'm scheduled for TVH on Sept 28. Less than 2 weeks away and I have SOOO much to do. Plus I'm at a dilemma! To take the ovaries or not. Im 45 and already premenopausal. I was going to have Dr take the ovaries so not to worry about cancer there in the future. Cancer not in my immediate family, but several aunts, uncles, etc. However, now I read that estrogen and HRT is bad for the heart, next problem....I had a heart attach at 32. So I already have heart disease. What should I do??
What would you out there do????? Please help, less than 2 weeks away and not decided!
Thanks so much for any and all help!

Re: HELP!! New and I'm freaking out!!!

Welcome aboard and please know that you are not alone! It seems like once the decision to have a hysterectomy is made, then, there are lots more decisions to make such as what to keep and what goes. I understand and it is good to research and etc. I am 51 so I had everything removed except cervix. I am on premarin with no apparent side effects so at this point, anyway, I have no regrets. I do remember being very anxious at about 2 weeks away but try not to worry too much. It really isn't as bad as I thought it would be and it will be over before you know it. The main problem I'm having is boredom and trying not to do TOO much. Glad you found us and I wish you all the best. There are several threads here to go through and see how others made their choices and I'm sure many will post here as well with their experiences.

Re: HELP!! New and I'm freaking out!!!

Hi klilly1307

I got almost nothing done I wanted to before my surgery since I was in so much pain--and it was still okay.

As for your ovaries, my suggestion would be to talk with your cardiologist to find out what is best. I kept my ovaries at 44, so even though I am now experiencing some early signs of menopause and am on HRT, I'm able to keep the dosage pretty low.

Ask all your doctors what they think is best for you in terms of keeping/losing your ovaries and HRT, and hopefully that will give you some peace of mind about the right decision for you.

Re: HELP!! New and I'm freaking out!!!

Welcome klily,

This is a tough decision on whether to go on HRT or not. I debated on this before my surgery also. I had one month to decide. This website plus families and friends gave me tremendous insight on whether I ought to take HRT or not.

After a lot of praying and research, I decided not to take it. As of now, I do not have any menopausal symptoms. However, one of my dear friends had menopausal symptoms the second day after the surgery.

I wish you well in making the best decision for your health.

Thanks so much for your responses so far. Did any of you have heart disease already before your hysterectomy?
