Help!!!! Keep Ovaries????

I have a question that I would like to ask all of yall. I am 38 and have had a history of endo. I have now been diagnosed with adenomyosis. My gyn has suggested a hysterectomy but left it up to me whether to keep my ovaries or not. I talked to my PCP and he recommended that I remove them. What are yall's opinion about keeping vs. removing ovaries.

Let me say that my Mother had cancer (while pregnant with me) and my Aunt both died cancer (not ovarian or breast).

My surgery is scheduled for 7/12. My GYN is not sure whether my surgery will be vaginal or abdominal.

Any info yall could give would be greatly appreciated. I am really scared about the surgery.

KEEP OVARIES????? and stuff

Aloha, I am 54 years old, in menopause and am having a supercervical hysterectomy June 28 due to fibroids. I too weighed heavily the pros and cons of keeping my overies and have decided to keep them since they can produce lots of good stuff way into old age. I have no history of cancer in my family and if I weren't having a hysterectomy to begin with I figured I wouldn't have a surgery just to remove my ovaries because they might be cancerous one day. My libido is important to me and I don't want to lose any natural testoterone that may be produced after menopause. I am making this decision even after 2 female gynos have recommended otherwise because of my age and the ovarian cancer chance. This is a very personal decision and you should do as much research as you can to make an informed decision. Good luck to you.

KEEP OVARIES????? and stuff

I have read somewhere in a post where someone's mother had an complete hysterectomy with her ovaries removed and still ended up having ovarian cancer. I didn't know that could happen. Apparently it can, because the lining where the ovaries are can still get cancer. Has anyone heard of this? The risk is probably higher with a family history or ovarian cancer.

I've heard this too... but it doesn't make sense!! Does anyone know where to get information about how common ovarian cancer is when you don't have an ovaries? (That sounds ridiculous, but I've heard it several times!! I really want to know!

Aloha, My gyno also told me that you can still get ovarian cancer after they are removed because the cells are still there. I don't know the risk factor though. Good question. Like I said, I've decided to keep mine. I go to the castle tomorrow and am feeling quite nervous but ready to get this behind me.
