Back from DR.'s appt and mad!

Went into the surgeon today for first time-he was very nice and all, but he said he just didn't know if hysterectomy would improve the pelvic pain and pain after sex!
How could it not improve my pain after sex? I have a prolapsed uetrus, and that is what hurts during and after! He said the cystocele and rectocele wasn't bad enough to do anyhting about-oh then how come I can't pass gas unless I lay down or bend over?Sorry to be so graphic but I'm fed up!
Then to make things worse, the minute I was signing in, my tachycardia went crazy! I had to go back and lay down! The nurse thought it was panic attacks! I said -Look the cardio guy told me I have tachycardia-it is not dangerous so it doesn't require meds, but if I don't lay down, it is out of control. Just from walking up there it went up to 120. It felt horrible. Then, after I told the nurse that-she stayed with me and listened to my heart and said if she were me, she would call the cardiologist and tell him that she wanted meds!
The dr was nice, and he is willing to do the hyster if my other dr concurs! What a mess-don't I have any say in this?!!
Just do something! He said if he found any endo in the lap, he would do a complete hyster. I thought-yeh-I hope you do! I can't take anymore bleeding, pain, and emotional garbage!
I got so **** nervous when my heart went wacky that I forgot to tell him half of what was going on! When he touched my uterus and right side-I wanted to kill him!
Any advice would be great. I am very upset and don't know what to do. He said he would call friday. More hurry and wait!

Pelvic pain and sex

My doctor was not willing to promise me relief either. Pelvic pain and pain after sex are kind of mysterious and slippery and you never know if there's some nerve thing or some other sneaky thing going on inside there. That's why they won't promise you anything.

My doctor is an endo specialist and also a fertility specialist and hadn't treated someone with painful orgasm before. But after the surgery she said, "I'd really never seen that before but sometimes you have to use your brain instead of being a little robot..." In other words, it's logical that if the pain is coming from that region and it's a cramping pain and there's a muscle right there that's notorious for cramping and known to be involved in orgasm, well, maybe it's a good be that that's your problem.

But it's a bet.

For what it's worth, I won big in the hysterectomy lottery--my and painful periods are gone and orgasm is pain-free (don't know about sex yet; it's only been 4 1/2 weeks).

Did they examine you standing up? Some hystersisters have reported doctors finding a whole new world of prolapse then. I wish you the very best of luck with this. Is one of your doctors a gastroenterologist looking at the rectocele?

Back from DR.'s appt and mad!

Even though I told him the prolapse is only bad when I stand or sit-he only did an exam lying down! I was mad at that too. He said for having two kids you have to expect that sort of thing. NOT! My mom had ten kids-all vag. del, and she doesn't have her uterus hanging down to her opening!
The rectocele was never checked by thre gastro guy. Just the obgyn. It is so bad, I have to splint to pass gas or go #2!
I just want it all fixed and all I can do is cry today because of this stupid period! It isn't helping-I keep saying to my self-just stop it! But it continues ----even when I see the stupid cute bunny on the tv-I cried! What a mess! hahaha
thank you for being here. Two yrs is long enough---please pray they just find the answer and fix it!

Gee Whiz!

Hi Joyneau!

Wow, it sounds like you've had a bad day!! I think I'd want to be searching out another doctor at this point myself! If he doesn't recognize how bad the problem is, will he be able to fix it??

Well, I'm sure you know what's best for you and I hope you get some relief soon.

Doctor not listening

Now that you've told us more about your experience with your doctor, I agree with Arctic that you might want to look for a different doctor. Maybe ask your primary care physician who she sees (or who his wife sees) or ask friends for opinions of their doctors.

Your doctor should listen to you and answer your questions to the best of his/her ability and should respect your opinions and it doesn't seem this doctor is doing that. A hysterectomy is major surgery and if it were me I would want someone I felt I could trust.

My doctor did not promise specific results for my hysterectomy, but I think that was just responsible. She did list the treatment options and give me the best diagnosis she could and let me decide whether I wanted to gamble on hysterectomy as the best answer for me. She did a thorough exam and listened to my description of my pain symptoms. I felt we were partners in my treatment.

I hope you find the best possible answer for yourself, and that everything goes well.

Its a team effort

I totally agree-I would get a second opinion maybe even a third. You want to be comfortable with your options because they are YOUR options! And I always thought YOU got to choose your options! The first doc that I saw I didnt feel listened to me. So I went and got a second opinion. I wasnt anywhere near impressed with that one so I saw #3! I totally trust him-we are on the same side! Take care of yourself!

(((Joyneau)))

So sorry you're having such a hard time. If I were you, I would seek out another opinion. As Arctic said, if your doctor doesn't know how to diagnose your problems how reliable will he be to fix the problems?

Back from DR.'s appt and mad!

That's some heavy duty stuff on your plate girl! If it was me, I would call the doctor who referred me to the surgeon and talk to that doctor. Not the nurse. Tell them exactly what happened and that you are not comfortable with the surgeon and there is no rapport. Ask for a different referral, possibly a woman.

You have every right to be involved in your decision making and every right to want a doctor and/or surgeon with whom you can feel safe and whom you can trust. All it requires is a phone call.

Best of Luck!

Dear Joyneau,

The prolapse will get worse in the future, and cause you more problems. You should get another medical opinion. Get smart about your symptoms and your options, & make the best choice for YOU.

Sending cyberhugs
