Sharing that you are having surgery with other people

Hi, everyone....new here and already introduced myself in the Intro area.

I'm pretty open with all of my medical problems and infertility issues thru the years and am not really embarassed or hush hush about it being a "female issue." I've just gotten used to it over the years. However, I don't like to make others uncomfortable so I was wondering how you tell others that you are having a hysterectomy without upsetting the squirmy people?

I'd like to share the news with my bible class at church, just because I know they like to pray for things like this and possibly bring a few meals to the house. Is saying, "I'm having a hysterectomy in a few weeks" uncomfortable or should I just do word of mouth to a few people?

So glad to be here! Cannot WAIT to have my surgery.

Re: Sharing that you are having surgery with other people

I think if you just ask for prayers because you are having surgery, when they ask just tell them...

I had my surgery on Jan 21 and I Thank God everyday for allowing me to get through my surgery and that it is over.
Be Blessed...

If you are comfortable with saying it, go for it. I was open about my surgery with my friends, family and staff, and it was fine. It sure stops a lot of rumours when you are open about what is happening to you.

Re: Sharing that you are having surgery with other people

I think *most* of my friends will want to know. My boss, a man, was 1000000% supportive and understanding as were my office mates and the few friends I've told so far. We are lucky to belong to a church group that will bring meals, shuttle kids, and, if course, send up prayers. So sad when I hear of people are not supportive to others. For goodness sake, we're all part of the human family! Compassion for all!

Re: Sharing that you are having surgery with other people

I think it's sweet that your concern is how other people may feel when you share you news. I don't think that occurs to most people.

I always say to share whatever you are comfortable with. You know your friends/family/church group the best and will likely have a good idea how much info is too much for them. Maybe hold back a little at first and if they express interest and concern, share some more.

I am very private and shared only with my family and 3 closest friends. I did not allow my DH to tell any of his family or friends. I figured they are my lady parts and I get to control who knows/talks about them. I also didn't want pity or opinions from anyone. I was having a difficult enough time with my decision, I just didn't have the energy to talk to others about it too.
