Itchies

I had my DaVinci hysterectomy on 1/17/13. I am having a major case of the itchies around my incisions....Not the incisions themselves, but the surrounding skin. Any idea of what I can do to calm things down? I'm afraid I'm going to scratch in my sleep and open something up.

Re: Itchies

Not only do my incisions itch, but my entire torso. My skin is so dry, it's like my body has dandruff. I've been putting vitamin e (squeezed from the capsule) around (but not on) the incisions, and at the two week follow-up, the doc said I could start putting it on the incisions. Those areas aren't dry at all. I need to find a good lotion for the rest of my skin...something not irritating or perfumey

Re: Itchies

I haven't had the itchies (yet?) but someone mentioned putting cold packs on the incisions to reduce the itching. And for sleeping, maybe wearing cotton gloves and/or tucking a sleep shirt into your pj pants (very attractive, I know) will make it harder for you to do any damage by mistake in the night.

Re: Itchies

I put some lotion on my tummy this evening, not on the incision but the surrounding skin, and that has helped some. I like the idea of wearing some cotton gloves to bed, might try that tonight. I will be glad when the steri-strips come off and I can start putting stuff on the actual incisions too.

Re: Itchies

Just got back from clinic because of itchy rash. Doctor suggested topical Benadryl to help ease the itchies. So far it working OK. Better than nothing, that's for sure.
