Does any one out there regret keeping their cervix?

it's strange - first we come to terms with having a hyster, then we have to decide what goes and what stays. i had my SAH 8 months ago and no regrets at all over the surgery or keeping my overies and cervix. i have not had a mini period and only had a discharge in the hospital. i was all prepared with every size pad available and didn't need a one!
you have to keep up with the paps but thats OK with me. btw sex is the same for me as it was before.

I also have no regrets and I'm one of the minority that also gets a mini-period.

Sex has been the same (actually better because of no need for condoms any more).

I know there are other ladies that have had problems - so make the decision based on your particular health history.

If you're going to keep it make sure you're screened for the high risk strains of the human papilloma virus (which may be responsible for up to 80% of all cervical cancers).

Take care.

Not yet...had LSH on 1/28 and so far no mini-periods, and orgasms are still good. I hope I can report months from now I still have no mini-period, but won't mind a little spotting if it does happen. It's a far cry from the hemorrhaging pre-op.

Does any one out there regret keeping their cervix?

I chose to keep my cervix when I had an otherwise total abdominal hysterectomy in 1999. Unfortunately, as it was not really 'anchored' to anything it prolapsed. I then had to have a very complicated cervical stumpectomy and vaginal vault suspension, along with a cystocele and rectocele repair 6 months later.
I had chosen to retain my cervix because I thought it would make my sexual experience more as it had been before the TAH. But, you know, I think that the nerves are all around in the surrounding tissue anyway, and I really don't feel it is radically different!

Hi Bikery-Chicky,

I had a LSH and I am now...wow...11 months post-op on the 22nd.

I had my cervix cauterized during surgery to prevent a mini-period. I have not had a mini-period in post-op. As Juniper mentioned, there are a small minoirty of ladies who get a mini-period if they keep their cervix. From what I have read, it only warrants a pantyliner.

For me...I am glad I kept my cervix. It was/is healthy and I was a candidate to keep it, so I did.

Best wishes,

Mary
