About bowel movements.

Hello Sisters,

Today is my third day at home after my surgery. I am doing ok, cut down the pain killer pills, sleeping lots, walking a little, eating small meals... My only complaint is that I haven't had a bowel movement yet...:0( I am taking stuff, lots of water...but still nothing. I was suggested to use glycerine suppositories to help soften the stool...I will be trying this today...

Does anyone of you try anything different?

Thank you.

It has been 6 days since my surgery and I have not gone yet...I am scared to go but I am thinking of trying something other that laxative pills since they are not working yet, I just do not know what to use.

Stool softeners... 2 at each meal time. These have to be taken regularly... they are like a multi-vitamin - won't do you any good if you take them hit/miss.

You may be rushing the BM since you are just at 3 days post op. My colo-rectal doc didn't want any insertions until 5 days without a BM. Not sure you should do the suppositories with your doc's consent so you might want to call first. Best wishes ~

About Bowel Movements.

Hello Sisters,

Woo Hoo! :0) It finally happened! It felt "ready" today, but I had no "impulse" for a bowel movement. Lucky to get rid off gas which is very good. I have to say I was also scare of any pain. I heard of glycerine suppositories and tried them out once. In just 20 minutes I had my BM. It was a very normal one. What a relief! Hopefully now I will have my BM happening normally. I will stick to my healthy diet, small meals, pretty much vegetarian, and drink lots and lots of water.

Thank you.

I feel much better now.

Woo-hoo ArticChick -- I remember that day! And what an accomplishment it was. <tee hee>

I'm just two-weeks post-op, and that situation definitely improved after the first time ... Hope it continues to improve for you too.

Ah yes, the simple things in life.

Yeah, it´s really worth celebrating! As for myself, I ate a bunch of prunes in water and it worked just fine. When I felt the urge, I tried but didn´t succeed at first but then I imagined I was at home in the morning, in a hurry to go to work and wouldn´t really have time to sit in the bathroom - and so it worked... It´s nice to be able to do it the natural way, without medicine.

I high-fived my daughter first day I successfully pooped after surgery. The greatness of the moment cannot be overstated.
Listen, stay loose, to torture an expression. Eat a salad a day, make sure it's got olive or flax seed oil on it. Drink a strong cup of coffee, walk a bit each day, and drink water as if you're in the desert. You will stay regular that way, though the celebratory feeling will become more a subtle "oooh, goodie for me."

Congrats from the "Queen of Constipation"!!!! It was so miserable to deal with that. I'm so happy you got some relief. You sound like you eat well which will help tremendously but check with your doctor and ask about taking the stool softeners for a little while. They are all natural and they just make it easy to go. The glycerine saved me several times too but there were times no matter what I did.....I'm impressed you went after 3 days. I was 5 days and that was on high fiber diet. Talk about full and in pain! I backed off the HF diet real quick after that. If he says yes to a softener and doesn't recommend one, most of us take the colace with very good results. I just switched to the Equate brand at Wal Mart after the sisters on here said they had great results with it......the price diff was ridiculous....no joke, 4 times the amt. of the store brand in a bottle and it was less than 1/4 the price of the colace.....

Hope things continue to go well!
hugs
