Rash from adhesive tape

I am 5 days post-op. I started this rash on my belly, from where the dressing was. I thought it would be better by now, but is actually getting worse, is very itchy, welty red, and is oozing. Now this is diffentely not my incision, it is around it, where the tape had been placed. The pharmacist recommended Benadryl cream. I am going to give that a try today, if not better will call DR. I was just wondering if any other women had this and what worked for them?

Rash from adhesive tape

I get a rash from my HRT patch, after it is removed, and a little antibiotic cream clears it up right away.

I hope this helps-

Rash from adhesive tape

Hi HappyFlowers,

The tape caused little sores for me. I kept them clean and dry for the first few days and then dabbed a bit of Neosporin on them. They healed just fine.

Tape is so harsh! Keep an eye your rash to make sure the Benadryl helps, if not, ask your doctor what you should use.

I had a rash like that too, while I was still in the hospital. I had stitches, with a bandage over it. By the 2nd day post-op I noticed redness all around the bandage and insisted they take it off because I thought the incision was infected. It was very painful. But when they took the bandage off it was the skin under it, not the incision itself. It was blistered, red and purple.

They didn't do anything to it, just left the bandage off and it cleared up within a week. I never did put any creams or ointments on it, they said to just let it dry out, which seemed to work. It was very sore and slightly itchy, but it gradually got better each day.

I never had any problems with the steri strips.

Rash from adhesive tape

I am alergic to all types of plaster, and you need to make sure you tell your doc/nurse before they put this on you. Although whilst in the recovery room, despite wearing a warning wrist band noting my allergy, my arm started to hurt and despite the pain in my tummy had to beg them to remove some plaster which had been placed on my had to hold all the drips in.

I tend not to put any cream on it just settles on it's own, but it is very sore should i come into contact with plasters.

Hope it is not too painful

Regards

Rash from adhesive tape

Hello,
I've had tape on and off my belly everyday since my surgery in January, It wasn't until they started using paper tape on me this week, yesterday was nasty I had these little red blister type sores when I removed the tape, I was very hot here yesterday I think that may have had something to do with it. The tape I use is called Medipore it's a breathable cloth tape I've been using for the past 5 mos.

Rash from adhesive tape

I thought I was alergic to the adhesive tape because of my experience after a c-section. With my TAH, the staples were removed the day I left the hospital and the sore red, oozing spots were back where the tape held my dressing on. The nurse said it was caused by the tape pulling the top layer of skin away and to treat it like a burn. The tape is that strong. She told be to use Neosporin and it helped. But the oozing and itching lasted some time. Keep it dry and it will heal faster. I even dusted my belly with a little baby cornstarch powder.

Rash from adhesive tape

I have a severe latex allergy and have troubles with adhesive tape. I have to use paper taps and still get a rash if it is on too long. I would talk to your doctor.

Rash from adhesive tape

I had the tape over my incision following a c-sect and broke out in a rash that progressed to blisters that 2 years later still have scarring, it turned out that I am allergic to the glue on the tape and bandaids, so the nurse cut them back to within an inch of the incision then removed them altogether the following day, the itching and pain from that was worse that the incision itself and the allegic reaction created a nasty infection as it irritated the incision, I would ask your doc if they can be removed if it doesn't settle down
