OK so my surgery was on May 15 and Im still having trouble sleeping. I am not a morning person at all but Ive been falling asleep around mimdnight everynight and waking at 5:30 am ever morning? Today I was even tired after lunch tried to take a nap but only slept about 15 mins. Anyone else having trouble sleeping? Only meds Im taking are tylenol or ibuprophen all over the counter.

Re: trouble sleeping

Hi. I am well past your stage of recovery, but it took me about 4 weeks before I was sleeping normally. For some reason I felt quite hyper after my surgery and never felt any fatigue most people complain of. I know other people in my date club also had insomnia - one person spent a lot if time posting when she should have been sleeping!
Just try to rest even if you can't sleep. I spent quite a bit of time watching mindless tv. You will find your sleeping returns to normal.

trouble sleeping

Thanks! Ive been going to bed and just laying there until I finally fall asleep. Even though I woke up very early again I stayed in bed anyway and eventually dozed back off until I had to get my kids up for school. At first I thought it was the pain meds but they should be out of my system by now.

Re: trouble sleeping

My sleep cycle is off too. My back pain kept me up before the surgery, but this is slightly different. I go to bed early, sleep about 5 hours, awake for two, and up way too early! Hot flashes, being uncomfortable, meds wearing off, any number of things wake me up now.

Re: trouble sleeping

I too am having trouble sleeping but am exhausted all the time. I never woke up at night to pee before surgery and now I'm waking once to twice and take forever to fall back asleep after. I feel like I could nap all the time. It's awful!

Re: trouble sleeping

My surgery was May 14th and I'm still having trouble sleeping too. Same as you, sleep for 4-6 hours and waking up WAY too early, getting up to pee, etc. I asked for RX sleep meds at my 2 week post-op yesterday, and last night I slept like a baby!! Call you Dr. and ask for them if you need them. I've never used them before, but I'm tired of being tired! I can't wait to actually sleep tonight again!!!

Re: trouble sleeping

Hi Hon,
Not all of us react the same way. I'm not a good sleeper. I couldn't sleep after I got back to my room. My SX was at 7:00 am. It was about 11:00 in the evening before I could actually sleep. I think I had about 4-5 naps in the 6.5 weeks between surgery and going back to work. Just take it easy during the early stages of recovery. As long as you rest you should be ok, even if you don't sleep a lot.
