How long for silver nitrate to work?

Finally had a follow-up appointment yesterday, almost 6 weeks out. Have bled from day one. Doctor used silver nitrate yesterday on one place there was some granulated tissue and on some stitches that weren't dissolving. Bleeding even more now. Can someone tell me how long it is supposed to take for the silver nitrate to work?

Call the doctor, even if it doesn't work right away, you shouldn't be bleeding more. Unless; did your doc try to remove sutures that weren't dissolved? Or the granulated tissue? If they were futzing around poking at things, you might give it a day or two, just like you spot after a pap, you might spot after an exam.

I don't know about silver nitrate in this situation so take this with a grain of salt... But when they used it in my son's umbilical belly button which was gross and gooey it healed pretty much instantly. It cauterizes it, when it touches the tissue, so it shouldn't really keep bleeding. It does depend on the strength though too. Good luck. I know it's been a hard process for you.

SFinSC Thanks for replying. I thought it would stop it immediately as well since it is supposed to cauterize it. Can't figure out why I've had increased bleeding all day.
