Day 2 of recovery

Hysterectomy was uneventful 5/29/13. Home now and resting fairly comfortably. The majority of my pain seems to be from gas. I have some pretty severe pain in my shoulder and my bladder seems to spasm when I urinate but both are getting better. My belly is swollen but not too tender.
My first night home was horrible. I started vomiting and the pain in my abdomen was unbearable! I refused pain meds for the rest of the night and the vomiting went away leaving me aching and really wanting some relief. I ended up taking 1/2 a pain pill and was able to sleep afterwards.
I am up and walking frequently, eating light meals and napping throughout the day.
Tomorrow should be even better

Re: Day 2 of recovery

It sounds like everything you are experiencing is completely normal. I hope you rest comfortably tonight and feel even better tomorrow. Happy healing!

Re: Day 2 of recovery

I'm sorry you got sick your first night home. If you think it's your pain meds making you sick, you need to call your doc and see if he/she wants to change your prescription or give you something for the nausea. You absolutely do not need to be in a lot of pain; it actually can slow healing. Besides, you don't need to be heaving with all those new internal stitches. Don't wait for the weekend to pass. Call the on-call doctor.
